I look at so many posts of people including myself wondering if they have picked the right hotel or not. How much time do you really spend in your room?
We wake up and spend about an hour in the a.m. we go to the park, come back, change into swim suits and go swimming, come back, spend about another hour showering etc...go to dinner, come back at night, sit up for an hour and go to bed.
That's roughly around 4-5 hours of awake time in room! When I look at it that way, if the room is clean and big enough for my family of 5 and affordable, that should be all that matter's.
I loved the WL and the POLY, but next year we are staying at POR, and I know the room will be alot smaller, but other than that, for the 4-5 hours we are awake in the room, I don't think that will matter too much!

Even 4/5 hours would be enough for me to go crazy in a cramped room. The room is very important to me. I would rather not go on vacation if the living quarters are not better than home. I don't want to be in a hotel room on vacation and wish I was home.

We go alot and never spent much time at the room or resort. The last 2 years we have stayed at a few Deluxe resorts and find we are going back to the resort to chill out for a few hours. Our fav resort so far is the YC..it is nice and quiet, has a beautiful lobby and the quiet pool and spa was empty the 4 days that we were there.

From what I understand, the WL rooms are on the small side, so a mod may not be that much different! I bet you'll be fine if WL was great! All depends on personal preference!

We do, but we look at WDW as a resort with theme parks attached. So we usually have a liesurely morning, afternoon rest, heck we've been known to spend our evenings sitting on teh balcony with a bottle of wine watching the world go by.

I'd say that we can easily spend six waking hours a day in the room, especially if we're at the BWV.

We usually go in the summer so the room is really important to us. We'll do a park in the morning but by mid day we are back at our resort for 4/5 hours to swim or relax before hitting another park at dinner. We are not commando's so we get dress leisurely and then hit the parks, so thats another 90 minutes - 2 hours (If we get up at 7:00 we generally leave ~8:30). Then at the end of the night we're usually up just unwinding, sitting on the balcony or maybe watching a little tube.

The resort and room are both very important to me, but the thing that I will never pay more for is the view. We just don't see the need to pay extra for a view. We really don't spend much time in the room (especially looking out the window) - Like you we head out early, return to swim, get cleaned up and head to dinner, then return to sleep. While we really like the deluxes, we still love and enjoy staying at CSR. It's all a matter of taste and priorities...:)

We expect to spend quite a bit of time not necessarily IN our room but definitely hanging out at the resort. We have little kids who will need naps in the afternoon and will be in bed each night rather early. We're going in January so the parks also close early. I think in subsequent trips we may choose to downgrade our resort choice (probably not though :lmao:) because we will spend less time in our rooms but for now that was a big consideration in how we picked our resort.

Ditto! When I go during the summer, I spend way more time in my room, usually in the afternoons. I take it slow because of the heat. Some evenings we choose to eat in the room, relax, play games, watch tv, whatever. I don't mind a smaller room when I go commando style (which is not often). but, I prefer more space. Just my personal preference.

We actually spent more time at our resort then we thought.
It is all about convenience for us.

We actually stayed at the POR on all of our previous visits, but there was only 3 of us. I love POR....just taking a walk is sooooo relaxing and beautiul.

We are now 5 and need a bigger place, plus we can afford an upgrade...so in Feb we are staying at Poly. It seems to be a good place for walks and scenary) also convenient.

I am hoping for a Concierge, TA is working on it.....my dad and Father-in-law can EAT, and I think they will stay at resort some of the time we are in the parks...so resort was important, and concierge would be good for snacking and close to main building.

We usually go during Spring Break so you need to be a little bit more of a Commando when it comes to getting to the parks early in the morning. Is this vacation or what???? :)

I have 3 boys, 4-7-10, and I know they would never let us just relax for too long anywhere! I know they loved the beach at the POLY but other than that, anywhere they can go swimming is good for them.

If I was just with my dh, or if my kids were teens, I definitely would relax and chill out more. I would love to sleep in and tour the parks when I wanted, lounge by the pool or on my balcony, and leisurely get ready for dinner.

Heck, the favorite part of staying at any hotel for my 4 year old is running down to the hotel room door and putting the key in!

When I go for a short trip (3 - 4 days), I don't spend much time in the room so I go for a value resort. During that time we use the room to just shower and sleep in. We're usually hitting the parks hard, long and fast. I don't see the point in spending money for a deluxe room when we're doing 'commando' duty at the parks.

Now when I do a 10+ day trip, I do spend a lot of time in the room and tour the parks at a more leisurely pace so I do a deluxe. The hotel amenities during that time are really important for me and that's where the deluxes fit the bill.

I usually skip the moderates. They're great but more than I need for short trips and I'd rather put the cash difference towards the deluxe for a longer trip.

We spend a good amount of time at the resort not necessarily in the room. Though we do enjoy time on the balcony. After many trips we no longer spend morning to night in the parks. We now prefer to relax more enjoy the resort.

Room & Resorts are very important to us. We usually go for 10 -12 days and to do morning to night at a park each day would be exhausting! We are on vacation so many days we relax in the morning and have coffee on the deck or have a drink on the deck in the evenings after the kids go to bed. :hippie:

We spend a few days at the resort using their facilities, pool, recreation etc.

The parks are fun but our vacation consists of the whole package :)

If the moderates had queen size beds, I'd have no problem staying at them. 95% of the reason we stay in deluxes is bed size. The other 5% is amenities. We don't spend a huge amount of time in the room, but when it's time to sleep, sharing a double bed with DH does NOT work for me, and a tired Mommy is a cranky Mommy. The extra we spend on the deluxe is worth it just so I can maintain my good humor:).

We spend a lot of time at the resort (the Poly). The pools, the beach, Kona for breakfast and dinner. That to us makes it worth it. We have tried other resorts, even the deluxe's and we are just happier at our favorite.

It's a bad thing really. I wish I didn't care or the fact that I'm staying some where else just didn't make a difference in my mood or outlook, but it does, and lucky for me, my husband too!!!!

If you don't care and you see your resort as only a place to sleep and shower and swim in a pool, count yourself very lucky. Some of us are really really sick, but I hear there is no help for us.:rotfl:

...so, being in our villa is important.

We usually visit the pool, shop at the outlets, etc.

(In fact, it's been over SIX years since we've been to any WDW park. Our two DD's prefer Seaworld to WDW.)

We also enjoy the kitchen in our villa, the grills by the pools, etc.

Not saying it's right for everyone, but it's right for us!

I agree that it's more about the resort than the room itself... It's about the "feel" of the place... the landscape and location... POFQ and CBR are both located close to Epcot, MGM, and DTD... which of course makes for shorter bus rides... When I go to Florida I want to feel some sand between my toes... I want to be able to hang out in a quiet spot between trips to parks full of people... One of the highlights for me from our last trip was laying back on a hammock on the beach looking up at the stars after a long day... and of course my bare feet dragging back and forth through the sand... Ahhh... heaven.... :cloud9:

The room and resort are important to us. We drive 10+ hours, so when we get there we want to be able to relax and unwind. We want our "home base" to feel comfortable, not just a place to rest our heads. We like having multiple restaurant and lounge choices as well. Proximity to parks is very important too.

We tend to spend a lot of time in the room if we're in a one-bedroom villa. We don't if we're in a regular hotel room.
