Do you put expensive/good gifts in the stockings?

Sometimes.
THis year there is ONE expensive gift that is going in the stocking.

For years I would get inexpensive toys for my kids stocking and candy. But I got tired of the wasted candy and broken cheap toys. So for the last few years I have been giving them movie theater gc, pencils (the spendy kind I would let them get when we were shopping for school supplies), beef jerky, gum, a big bag of pistachios (they love these), 2 beanies each (they seem to either get wet or cannot find them in the mornings), and a new wallet with $10 each. When they were younger I would get them Hot wheels and little toys.

Nothing like that! I have put a cheap ds game before or a $5 dvd but not a ds! This year they are each getting a club penguin plush and some candy plus one small trinket type toy from tru.

No way is there expensive stuff in our stockings! Stockings in this house are the warmup to the "good stuff". Its fun to sit there and pull all the stuff out of the stockings and use it as time to kind of wake up. We then break for breakfast (monkey bread and sausage balls) then go back for the gifts.

I usually shop all year for little stocking stuffers. But everybody knows that the stockings are where you will find all the junk food and candy plus the essentials like socks and stuff.

Last year my DH was hilarious. Ok, so I am totally obsessed with that Christmas song "I want a Hippopatomus for Christmas" and whenever I hear it on the radio I turn it up and sing along loudly and poorly :) I even bought a musical button from Hallmark a couple of years ago that sits on my counter. Every time I walk by I push it and it plays a rather lengthy clip of that song. Well he thought he would be funny and spent an entire year buying little Hippo trinkets (erasers with Hippos, stickers, ornaments etc) He then stuffed my entire stocking full of these Hippos. I came down the stairs and the first thing I saw was this blue hippo stuffed animal wearing a tutu sticking out of the top of my stocking!! He had the most outrageous Hippo stuff in it. I never laughed so hard in my life. Now everytime I hear that song I think of him running around for a year buying every Hippo thing he could find :lmao:

Thats here too. We go really cheap for stockings. Its just for fun anyway, so its little stuff. We have a giant stocking that has a pocket with each of our names on it. One larger item will go in there usually and by larger I mean a movie or something.

Leno had a Lwes ad or something the other day that had stocking stuffers as Washers and Dryers  seriously??? try a hammer if your shopping at Lowes for stocking stuffers!

I watched Monday night and there was an ad for manure--as a stocking stuffer. I was LOL so hard at that suggeestion.:lmao:

My kids are older (12, 15, 17), so I put in gift cards ($5-$10 each) and practical items like razors, toothpaste and so on. I shop CVS with ECB's and coupons and get nicer items than normal.

Basically consumables-I don't want more "stuff".

I don't put expensive things in our stocking never have nor is the gift form santa - all big and expensive gifts are from us :goodvibes

it was this way when I was kid and santa wraps at our house as well - when dh and first got married his family never wrapped from santa but my kids were already 9 and 10 I had to continue but then his boys santa never wrapped - sooooo without me being involved on the decision him and his ex decided that santa would only come to her house :goodvibes ...

Nope. Stockings are for small inexpensive gifts. I think the most expensive thing I've ever put in a stocking is a cd.

Intersting you do stockings last. If we did them last, I could see more saving a "good" gift. But we are like Luv Bunnies said - our kids are allowed to rifle through them before we even get up.

We do stickings first too. We like to eat the candy as we unwrap all the other bigger stuff!

I guess we're weird. Whatever fits in the stocking goes in the stocking, so if the most expensive gift is a cell phone or an ipod it's in there. Now, in my experience once they're old enough to want an ipod they generally don't believe in Santa, so that makes it easier. The DS didn't go in the stocking because it doesn't fit.

Usually there is one gift (usually the "big one" but not neccessarily the most expensive) from mom, more the most awe inspiring gift, and everything else that I buy is from Santa, and is either in the stocking or piled around it. This year he's already gotten his gift from me, so all he has is stocking stuff, and presents from relatives and friends.

We usually do candy, gloves, hat, magazines. I have done CDs or movies on occasion. One year DH put a sapphire ring in mine.
