Do you put expensive/good gifts in the stockings?

In our family, "stocking stuffers" are strictly inexpensive little things and candies but when I was browsing the Toys R Us website, under their stocking stuffer ideas they have listed Nintendo DS and DSi systems!

Now in my house, those would definitely be primo "under the tree" gifts and not stocking stuffers.

I guess stocking stuffers are second class in my house, lol.

Do you put "good" gifts in the stockings?

Not normally. Maybe if DD ever asks for a nice piece of jewelry or something like that I would put it in the stocking but typically we put in candy and small things--oh and gift cards.

No, the stockings are for little things because the kids usually yank them down and look in them before we even get up. For stocking stuffers this year, I got each boy a Star Wars bobble head and some candy. Big stuff is definitely going under the tree.

The majority of stocking stuffers for the kids are from Dollar Tree or the Dollar section at Target. I will throw in a couple of more expensive items -- usually a DVD and this year they're getting American Girl trading cards. Still super-cheap stuff. Certainly not a DS or even a DS game.

For my hubby I spend a little more, but still try to keep it at $10 or less per item. I think the most expensive thing in his stocking this year is a Cross pen I got at Marshall's for $15.

Usually just little cheap things. Hardly out anything worth more than $30 in a stocking. You gotta work to unwrap the good ones!!

I have occasionally gone as high as $6-$7 for a stocking stuffer, which I think is rather high. However, stocking stuffers are an art in my family. We work very hard to find appropriate ones, so sometimes I'm willing to spend a little extra. Of course, you also get brownie points in my family for finding stocking stuffers that came to you for free.

I've recently started putting DVDs in my DH's stocking, but they're ones I got for $3-$5 on Black Friday.

Intersting you do stockings last. If we did them last, I could see more saving a "good" gift. But we are like Luv Bunnies said - our kids are allowed to rifle through them before we even get up.

I have 4 dogs and a cat so jewelry always went into the stocking for safety.

trinkets and toiletries are what goes into our stockings. The kids can get up and open their stockings before we are up if they want, they have to wait for us for the rest of the loot.

No, we've never gotten expensive stuff in our stockings. We do ours for St. Nick's (Dec. 6) and we've always gotten candy, gift cards, shower gel/lotion and an ornament. MAYBE a couple times we got a movie but that's about as expensive as it gets.

Usually, DS's stocking is filled with candy and scratch-off lottery tickets.

Because he's getting to the age where he cares about his appearance, this year, I bought him a small bottle of cologne (Armani) and some lip balm. That cologne is the most expensive thing I've ever put in his stocking.

I try to avoid that. The stockings buy us time so that everyone is up and awake. It is our family tradition. I'd hate to put something expensive in one and miss the opening.

If their big gift is something not so big--it would go in the tree or disguised in a bigger package under the tree.

OK, I won't be putting a $50 gift card in DW's stocking this year.

On a related note, ever notice in the jewelry commercials on tv that usually the guy just hands the box with the ring in it to the woman? It's not even wrapped!

We do ours last. There is a big mixture of items from necessities like toothbrushes and deoderant to more expensive things like DS game, movie, Grumpy figurine (shhh, don't tell!) The nicer items are wrapped.

Since we are hispanic & celebrate the 24th big time, I decided that we do the stockings on Christmas Eve (for us Noche Buena). I put small things, nothing expensive but stuff it full, usually Dollar Store stuff for DS, play doh cans, for DH he needed a bucket style hat & new razors & I hinted at a romance novel, some lipsticks, fuzzy socks, just fun stuff & then we sit down & do some serious eating.

Christmas morning we do the regular gifts under the tree (my hubby calls it the American portion of Christmas) & eat leftovers all day

Thats here too. We go really cheap for stockings. Its just for fun anyway, so its little stuff. We have a giant stocking that has a pocket with each of our names on it. One larger item will go in there usually and by larger I mean a movie or something.

Leno had a Lwes ad or something the other day that had stocking stuffers as Washers and Dryers seriously??? try a hammer if your shopping at Lowes for stocking stuffers!
