Do you prefer large group or small at dinner?

Our first cruise was a 5 night Bahamas and we went with another couple and had a private table with the 4 of us. Our second cruise was 7 nights Eastern Caribbean and we were paired with 2 other couples. The other couples seemed to connect almost immediately and my DH and I felt very out of place throughout the rest of the cruise. We really enjoy the food in the main dining restaurants and didn't want to miss out and didn't want to change our seating times. Hindsight shows us we should have asked for a private table but didn't feel right about it. Our third cruise was 7 nights to Alaska and we ended up having a private table which worked out perfectly. We were close enough to not feel completely alone but were the only ones at our table so it was private for us. My DH isn't much of a joiner and we are both somewhat self-conscious so it worked out for us. Our next cruise is the 11 night WBTA and are going with another couple so we'll probably have another private table just for our group. I think it really depends on your own family. Whatever you and your family are comfortable with, go with that. DCL is very accommodating and is willing to help out in any way they can. That is the Disney Difference and we all agree that is what keeps us coming back time and time again, right?

I went on a cruise with my friend to celebrate our 50th birthdays and we were seated with 2 other couples and had a great dinner experience with them, we ended up meeting them at the shows and clubs and even on the decks during our cruise and had a great time...5 years later we went on another cruise together and since Disney did such a great job with seating us with other couples we thought the same thing would happen again and never requested anything and this time Disney placed us at a 4 top with another pair of single women traveling together and you would think that would of been a great fix too but they were from China and didn't speak a word of English, well one of the women spoke a few words but said right at the beginning of the cruise that she only knew a few English words and they never really tried to talk to us during the rest of the cruise. We felt bad for them so didn't ask to be moved because even if moved we would still be talking to just ourselves so we stayed and had our own conversations theirs in Chinese ours in English...If I travel again with my friend I would make some type of request so we wouldn't be seated with just another couple again because at least with a larger group you have a chance of connecting with at least 1 or 2 people...good luck

11 cruises and we have sat with others all but 2 of them. My husband will tell you he would rather have a table of our own, but I like making new friends. With that said he did have an awesome time with our tablemates from last Feb and when we were in Alaska two weeks ago he wished that they were on the ship with us lol. On a cruise with just me and my 21 year old we sat with another mother and her 22 year old daughter....they were amazing and we are all facebook friends now...I was so sad when we had to say goodbye to them.

Hate sitting with others. Worst part about a Disney cruise. Don't fullynrelax until I get on board, see the maitre d' amd confirm that my private table request has been met. We have 7 this time so we should be fine. They'd never sit one person with a family group of 7, would they?!?!?! That would be horrible.

Lol...It's so funny that one of the best parts about cruising to me is your worst. I'm not saying that one or the other is right...but meeting new friends at dinner is pretty much my favorite part about cruising.

Just came back from a 7-day Northern European cruise aboard the Magic. At the first dinner, we noticed our table had room for 8 (we were 4), so we figured we'd be dining with another family, which we'd never done before (unless we booked the cruise with them). Thankfully, the other family was incredibly nice and we had good conversations the entire week. And as it turned out, the wife grew up in my hometown! What are the odds of that happening?
