Do you prefer city or country life?

Having grown up in a city, I can tell you it's not all cracked up to be. It's nosey, it's crowded, the views can be an eyesore at times. I prefer the country life sometimes, being up in the mountains is incredibly peaceful and quiet.

I've only ever lived a rural life. I don't think I'd do well in an urban setting.

I like somewhere in between.
I have done city (CA) for 25 years, rural (WA) for 30 years.
Now Suburban for 14 years....and I like it best.

City, or suburban urban, which is what I’m used to. I like having the sky as my night light with only a couple of stars, hate wacky country roads with a passion, especially at night. I like to get everywhere I need within 5 minutes or less. I like to be able to talk to my neighbors without leaving my yard.

Neither…suburban life tied to a major metro area.

In my 20s, I spent some time with friends that lived in Manhattan. There were pros, but it felt claustrophobic, and while there were a lot of resources, it felt limited by what you could reasonably carry while walking or on mass transit…live you were forced to rely upon immediate area resources. Of course, this was before Amazon and other delivery services. We like to travel to some pretty remote places and have friends in rural areas and it’s all just too cut off from civilization to be long term livable. Even being in the burbs of a smaller city is intolerable for too long. It’s not as bad in this day of online shipping for everything, but you become keenly aware of how lacking some smaller cities can be when you need something in person and find yourself having to drive hours to a larger city with more stuff.

Case in point, I’d love to retire to the mountains of Colorado, but will likely opt for Denver area so we have a larger variety of resources at our disposal.

I grew up in a little town so far back in the country that most people did not know we were there. The population is still only about 500. We moved to Miami when I was in elementary school and I've lived in big cities ever since. I would move back to the country in a heartbeat. Big cities are full of noise, crime, and nasty people.

I've lived in all kinds of places. I'm definitely more of a suburb person. But if I had to pick between city and rural, it would easily be city. More to do and the people tend to be nicer and more accepting

Well I live in a small town in Western PA, but I work in Washington D.C. so I get both, though mostly D.C. as I have to be there all week.

I chose to live in the burbs but I like being close to the city so we can go in anytime to enjoy all they have to offer. We are 90 minutes to Boston and 2 hours to NYC and go to both regularly.

I disagree. But that attitude is what most City Folk have. It's a huge turn off for me now that I have moved away from it. It just seems so smug to think that humans are more evolved in larger cities.

I now live in the suburbs. Not quite country, but next to a smallish city (300k people). I have to say, I never knew life could be this good. I still visit my home city (and plenty of other cities), but could no longer live in a large city permanently.

Our city has ~80,000 people and I thought that was about average outside of metro areas. I would love to live in a town similar to the one where my husband grew up, it has a population of 1,980. The downsides are no real stores (Walmart, grocery, etc) within a 30 minute drive but absolutely 0 traffic and no stoplights. Heaven on earth for sure!
