If we go next spring and stay at the Swan, I was thinking:

Going to E-night at MK night before; Sleeping in on our non-park day; Walking to Boardwalk for breakfast; Relaxing by pool; Nap; Lunch at one of the resorts; Boating or Biking; Nap; Visiting Downtown Disney; Dinner at on of the resorts; Relaxing by pool; Bed early.

We'll be having three non-park days...our arrival day (get into WDW about 1ish), departure day (leave WDW about 1ish) and a day in the middle. I do tend to loosely plan that day. We're doing the Backyard Barbecue in Fort Wilderness that night. Might also amble on over to Typhoon Lagoon if we feel like it. Since it's not a first trip for any of us, that sense of urgency isn't there anymore. Ahhhh....we'll be stopping and smelling the flowers this trip.

We used to have every day carefully planned, but have long since decided to take each day as the mood strikes us.

The weather may play into our plans and we'll choose to do, or not do, something around that. We may also plan our activities around particular breakfast/lunch/dinner reservations (we're even making more of those at the last minute).

There's nothing wrong with enjoying what the resorts have to offer, especially when you're paying "resort" prices. Just about all of the resorts have great pools (not to mention pool bars) and other recreation. It's a nice break from the lines and crowds.

We usually have a non-park day curing our week-long trips. We just do nothing. Hit the pool or water park for a hlaf day. Just relax and avoid crowds...:D

Jodi: it's an excellent idea to plan like you've done. Just keep in mind things that come up that you have no control over: weather, someone a bit under the weather (sore throat, etc.) so that you can still take advantage of being in WDW but may have to either slow the pace down or go to plan B. There's nothing worse than feeling you've "wasted" part of your trip just because plans weren't flexible.
One trip my DS and DD came down with fevers, sore throats for 24 hours on separate days!! Being the seasoned travellers we were--DH and I split up our nursing duties of each one so that the other could take the healthy kid and do normal things. The nurse-parent got some relaxing time at the resort.
And best of all--neither kid felt like they's ruined anything !

I did a night at PI on a non park day(to be among my own kind;) )

you know whats really nice, if in the middle of your vacation you could get you family to go to the park, and you stay by the pool

We always have one non-park day, and we don't plan to do anything in particular except take it slow and hang out at the pool!

I will say that staying at the Swan or Dolphin has lots for you to do on your non-park day. Fantasia Mini-Golf, the Boardwalk and the Grotto Pool area itself is enough to keep you busy for the day!

The day after we arrive and our 7th day will be non-park days.

The first day we will recover from out 1000 mile drive, swim and explore Orlando.

On the 7th day we will be moving from BWV to AKL. We plan to get caught up on our sleep, go swimming at AKL, and just enjoy the resort.

We have several non park days when we go. We use one day to go to DD and one day to go to the Disney outlet stores. Another day we will go do other things like the pool and Pirate Golf.

Non-park days? I've never had a non-park day. That's why I go! :teeth: I can't just sit at the pool when I go. I've done that probably three times so DS could swim. That's it.

We have never had a day that was entirely "non park". Rather, we tend to have "slow start" days (where we choose to sleep in after a late night the day before... or short days that end up with us coming back to the resort for a mid day break that takes the rest of the afternoon (swimming and checking out the things the resort has to offer). A whole day in the resort is just too much for me of "relaxing" LOL! I can lie around at home and I can only swim so much before turning into a prune. I found if I am in the resort area too long... I end up doing "chores" - like picking up the room - or doing a load of laundry "since I am around" etc.

When I get to plan our Disney vacations yes I do plan the non-park days also.
When we had a last minute WDW trip no I didnt get to plan our non-park or our park days.
I prefer the planning/anticipation

We always do at least 1 water park, 1 day of mini-golf, several DD trips (including a boat rental for me and the kids while DW shops!), we kleep the AMC 24 and DQ as rainy day options (although I prefer to do EPCOT as a rainy day option).

Last trip we did an afternoon in Celebration (we ate and looked at some model homes).

Of cours,e our favorite non-park day plan is the pool. With lots of 'umbrella drinks'

Enjoy! We leave in 3 days!!!!

We usually do a little. We always have one non-park day set aside for downtown disney. We'll also usually do a late breakfast, either character or at a sit-down place. We also try to schedule time for mini-golf. :)
