Do you own a Boston Terrier or Dachshund?

I grew up with a Boston. She was smart, sweet, faithful and very lovable. I think she was trained in a day to go outside and never had an accident. She didn't shed.

If I was looking for another pet, I'd get another one.

We have an awesome Boston Terrier named Oreo! She is 13 years old but she doesn't act like it. We have 3 dogs, and Oreo minds the best. She is so well trained that I can tell her to go potty "right there" (and point to a spot) and she pees right there! Its the darndest thing! LOL.

She does fart and snore pretty badly though. Also, she barks like crazy when someone knocks on the door and comes into the house. It takes her a couple of mins to calm down. She stresses out around animals that are not her "sisters". And she has had some major health problems too. She had an ulcerated cornia that ruptured, so now she only has one eye. And she had cushings disease for years, but now tests like a "normal" dog. We have spent over $10,000 on her medical problems over the years. But she is worth it. And she doesn't like children, but that may be due to the fact that we don't have any and she hasn't really been around many. She isn't mean to kids, but she will run the other direction. lol

I used to be her human, but after we lost our oldest pug (who my DH adored) she switched to liking him better. :confused3

I would not trade her for the world, and would highly recomend getting a Boston.

We have a 10 year old Doxie and she is our world. Bless her heart, she is not the smartest. Our chihuahua runs rings around her but she is sweet.
She is a pain in bad weather about going outside to the bathroom though so she uses a wee wee pad. Not a huge deal.
We havent had any back problems with her but she does use doggie steps for an old couch she can go on. She tends to eat anything and everythoing so we watch her weight very closely.
She loves to snuggle with all of us but she is particularly attached to me.
I would absolutely get another one.

I have 3 doxies currently but have been in rescue so have had many come through my life. I love the breed but they aren't for everyone. I currently have 2 that have back issues and the dachshund breed isn't known for great teeth. My vet said this breed really needs to have dentals 2x a year. I have one doxie that lost all his teeth and just couple weeks ago one of our other ones had 5 removed. Needless to say this was very expensive. I must say that out of all the dachshunds we have had in last 13yrs or so we have been lucky to only have had 2 that had back issues. Also the breed is very hard to potty train. So if you don't mind pee pads, btw they do have washable ones, you might look elsewhere. Not saying they can't be trained just very hard and stubborn. If you do decide on a dachshund look at your local rescue groups. So many need good homes. Good luck on your decision!

My sweet 11 year old Boston, Lil, is laying by me as I type this. She is the sweetest, most laid back dog I've ever had. She does snore and has one dry eye which we medicate. She loves her "snackies" and is good with the grand kids. :goodvibes

She was pretty easy to train and has very good manners.

My son has a Boston and I get custody on the weekends. I love that dog more than I have ever loved a dog in my life. This one, as a pup, had severe seperation anxiety. Unfortunately, my son was at work for long hours. The pup ate 9 holes in the sheetrock, ate one chair and half a sofa. Looking back, he was definately a dog that would have benefited from kennel training. When I started to get him on the weekends, I started to work with him. He learned to ring a bell when he needed to go outside. But, he was smart enough to know that if he was not getting enough attention, he could ring that bell and go play outside with me. He is the smartest dog I have ever been around. I had 2 poodles years ago. He understands exactly what is being said to him. We have to spell dogpark and treats. He will go play our piano when he thinks its time for a treat. If we ignore him, he will play and sing. I do dicipline him when he does not listen. I put him in a corner for time out. He will not leave that corner until I say so. It is the most pitiful sight to see him all dejected in that corner. But it does the trick. I love my Brewster.
