Do you or don't you ask for specific room possibilities?

Good Morning,

We are going to be going to WDW and are staying at the BCV's (renting points) in April. When we made our arrangements with our DVC member, we asked for 3rd floor and up, NS and Epcot view room. After reading all of the great information on here, I was wondering if we could (or should) get our DVC member to call in a few weeks to request some of the specific rooms that you all have reported on. We should be checking in early (10:30-11ish)on a Friday. Do the Cms, like I have seen at some hotels, show you a map of the units availble and let you decide your location? I am just curious to know if anyone has requested specific rooms given the information they have learned and has gotten their choices when they checked in. Thanks for all of your help thus far!!

It doesn't hurt to try, but my impressions from these boards is that a view or floor location request is much more realistic. Room assignments might be noted on the reservation, but rooms are assigned at check-in. Other people on this forum might contradict, but I am answering based upon what I have read, NOT personal experience. My wife and I are going to BCV for the first time in June, and so far I have only one request on my reservation - non-smoking. I am probably going to call within the next few weeks to request a floor and view.

The general consensus is to request room attributes, not rooms.

You request room 123 because it has this and that. Room 123 is occupied, you get room 456 which has neither this or that.

Had you requested this and that, your are more likely to have at least recieved this.....maybe that.....maybe even this and that.

I think once you have your reservation confirm number, you can fax the BCV room controller directly and just note your room preferrences and ressie number.

The BVC room controller number is 407-934-3850.

The room controller/front desk will not have your reservation in their system until 5 to 7 days before your arrival, so don't fax before then. If I fax, I do it Tuesday for a Saturday arrival.

I agree with Rich (ouch - I don't say that very often).

I think it is a mistake to fax room requests. You select views not rooms with your reservation. Views, like a pool view, are much more important than a room, say 218 is.

Plus you are less likely to be disappointed when you arrive and are not assigned a room, but get your requested view.

We had a room controller on this board confirm that awhile ago.

Did the member make the requests? Are they listed on your confirmation? If so, I most definitely WOULD NOT ask the member to do anything further in this regard. Personally, I would never dream of asking for a particular room, and just would not feel comfortable doing that for someone else, either. If they have already made THREE room requests I think that is quite enough. And I hope you don't get upset with the member if the resort isn't able to accommodate all of your requests!

My whole point in asking this ? was to see if requesting various rooms was something that veteran DVCers do routinely. I am not that demanding as you seem to infer. My DVCer asked ME to give him three room type requests, I didn't solicit it. ( I didn't even know you could request that type of thing). He put them in when he got our reservation for us- all at once- and seemed happy to do so for us. I will be happy to just be there, believe me. It is a dream come true for us and no, I won't be disappointed with anyone. As a newbie to all of this, I was just trying to get more information and find out what to do (if anything) in terms of our room.
Honestly, your reply kind of hurt my feelings.

Don't worry about the requests you have already made. I always make three when making a reservations. Non smoking, the location (view) and upper or lower floor. What you did is not that unusual and I have also done it for people I have rented points to. Often if we are going with someone else, I will put in a fourth request to be near (sometimes far if its certain relatives) from their room.

Specific room requests are not included on the reservation, so don't worry about that. When you arrive, they may be able to help you with what is available. Or you could fax something a couple of days prior to arrival to the person who assigns rooms with your reservation number.

Feel free to ask questions, it is the only way to learn all about DVC.

I didn't intend to hurt your feelings. I just believe that there are people who do get too carried away with either demanding everything their way, or so obsessed with some perceived "perfect" room that they drive the room assigner crazy and probably make them less likely to seriously consider others' simpler requests. (I mean, I am sure they roll their eyes sometimes at the litany of requests/demands.) I thought my post, with my personal thoughts would provide another viewpoint. Sorry if you got upset.

Believe me no one was trying to hurt your feelings, they were merely responding to your questions, not to you personally.

I realize you are new to this, but to survive and participate on Net forums, you can not take anything personally, if you do you will have hurt feelings constantly,

I think your stated requests are normal and sufficient and anything else will dimish your chances of getting what you want. As stated you can get too specific.

I generally rqeust a non-smoking room, and if there's a spot that I particularly want a view of, I'll request that, alhtough generally I am of the opinion that there are very few bad views at WDW.

That being said, if I book a 1BR at OKW, I generally ask to be on the first floor OR in the buildings with the elevators to the 2nd and 3rd floors. I also ask for a 1BR unit with the separate entrance to the bathroom through the laundry room. Some of the OKW units only have the bathroom entrance through the MBR. Once we stayed there and had a friend sleeping on the pullout couch. I forgot to ask for the 2 entrance bathroom, so she had to walk through our bedroom in the middle of the night to use the bathroom!!!!!!!

I don't request a specific eroom ever, and I must admit, I have always been pleased with the rooms we have been assigned.

Thanks everyone for all of your replies. I think we will take what comes as far as our room assignment goes based on our prior view requests and I am sure will be happy. With all that is going on right now in the world, thinking about a room preference is ridiculous anyway I feel! I am just praying that the world will be as settled (by then) as we hope to be in a nice room at the BCVs. And to FredS, I apologize, too---I think it was just me PMSing! God Bless our troops.
