Do you open your SO's mail?

If I didn't open my husbands mail it would never get opened. I take care of all the bills and he wants nothing to do with any of it. He wont even open his company newletter or his 401k stuff! I open it and let him know if anything looks interesting.
I never open my kids mail because they get so excited when they get mail but at least they will open theirs.
If he ever asked me not to then of course I wouldn't.

I open all of the mail and let DH know if there is anything of interest to him. Packages in his name I leave for him and obviously personal mail as well, like birthday cards.

The fact is, 90% of the mail gets thrown out and another 8% is bills. He is relieved not to have to sort through it himself.

I'm kind of shocked because I expected a lot more people to say that they would be offended if their spouse opened their mail.

That being said, I open almost all of Mrs. AlabamaAlan's mail and she opens none of mine. It works for us.

I open any of the credit card applications that show up in our mailbox regardless of to whom they are addressed. And then I shred them. Otherwise, I let Sue open her own junk mail.

More disturbing than opening your DH's mail (which is just not quite "kosher") is assuming that he wants to "get out" of jury duty.

And if he does want to, why? That's the part that bothers me...:(

Katerkat's DH is military, and they live in MS. Hard to go to jury duty in PA from MS. Same thing happened to me also. My parents opened a jury summons for me while I was overseas. Kinda hard to go to Dallas for jury duty when in Saudi. Of course, I have sat on 4 Court Marshall boards which is just like jury duty!

I opened my DD's jury duty letter and got her out of it. Told them the 1900 mile commute was going to be a little much, lol. And my husband always gets out of jury duty. If his job allowed him to be away for a period of time, I'm sure he would be more than happy to serve. But that is not the case. Things are not always as simple as some would like to make them.

I have not read any of the other responses yet :).

I do not open my husband's mail (even though he is away on business much of the week) and he does not open my mail. It took my a while to break him of the habit of opening all the mail "Is this your name on the envelope? No?" We trust each other to pass on anything important to the other and it works out fine.

It's not that my mail is interesting, or anything. It's not ;). It's a privacy issue for me. We don't read each other's emails either.

I open all the mail. If it looked like a birthday card or something like that I'd put it aside & let him open it.

Yeah - it's what Jessica said. Even if he WANTED to go to PA, he wouldn't be able to leave training the last couple of months.

Never ever, it's a breach of total integrity and trust. If it's addressed to someone else, it's their's to read not mine.

Oh Katers you're too funny! Did Bry ever notice you opened it? (I did't read through all the posts :o )

Hi Lors! He didn't notice at all. (How was your power? I should go elsewhere and check!)

I don't open the mail which is obviously personal - but I open bills and junk mail in DH's name - then toss. I don't open his packages unless he asks me to.

They're so oblivious sometimes  At least it came in handy this time. :) Power came back at 10 last night. But we had to eat all our ice cream before it melted :p

I even check DH's email (at his request) when he is out of town to make sure it doesn't get too full or that there isn't something that needs to be addressed personally.

I just kind of don't get the privacy thing. He tells me everything anyway.

I never open my husbands mail, anything that has his name only on it waits till he is home( sometimes for 48 hours) . Now he on the other hand opens any and everything that is in the box when he gets to it 1st ;)
Wonder what he is looking for LOL

Wishing everyone a tagged night
