Hi,

I just got through reading a post on the "Families" board and they were saying that you "need" to bring ID for children.

Why?

Does it depend on whether you buy a seat for them or not? Does it depend on the airline?

I don't think I needed ID last time. I bought a seat for both of them even though my little one was 14 months. I bought seats for both of them again even though my little one will now be 22 months. I did get a discount both times for the one under 2; about 50% off when I buy through Expedia.com.

Anyway, I just want to make sure I do not have to bring their birth certificates???

Thanks!

When I bought tickets for our last family trip, I specifically asked about ID and was told that children under 18 when traveling with their parents do not need ID.

once the child reaches the age of 16 they do start to ask but it is not mandatory until they reach 18.

I was told by Southwest that all kids need either birth certificate or shot record - even the baby!

I think SWA is trying to cover themselves big time. You never know who could nab a child and pull him/her on a plane.
While a hassle to some, I would be happy that they cared.

If you're concerned just go to DMV and get your children a picture ID. We got one for our grandson a couple of years ago when he was 5. Since he has an AP I found it to helpful just in case anyone asks and we show it at the airport too. He thinks it neat to have a picture ID. It can't hurt and will make your little ones feel special.
