do you need account in app for virtual line

I know you need an account in the Universal app to pay for mobile order, presumably even just to make a mobile order. But do you need an account to get a virtual line reservation? Do the accounts need to be linked to your passes/tickets? (Basically I guess I'm wondering if the kids can use the app to try for virtual line times without being linked to an account or tickets or credit card, etc.)
