My wife and I went last year for dinner on our first trip to Disney World. It was a great experience but this year we are trying to give ourselves more park time by doing early lunches and then just snacking on things throughout the day. Do you miss out on much going to BOG for lunch?

Just the beast, really. We like the quick serve breakfast and lunch. Food is still brought out to you, you just get your own drinks. The ambiance is still there, but the meal is quicker.

Are all the different rooms open for lunch? Or is it limited at all to the main room?

All the rooms are open to lunch. We've been there several times for lunch and 'love' the braised pork entree and the french onion soup - our favorite dishes each time. It is so amazing to us for a QS, have no desire to go for dinner there, even though we made a ressie once - we cancelled it. We eat in the dark (rose) room each time - love it!

Lunch is cheaper, you can usually pick which room you'd like to eat in and choose your own table, and it's faster. Dinner has the option to meet the Beast, and of course has different food choices (appetizer menu, different entree choices, the grey stuff dessert on a cupcake at lunch vs the dinner option). I have done dinner when my party wanted photos with the Beast -- but if we're not doing the character meet, I like lunch and would pick it over dinner.

Plan wise it does seem like lunch is the better choice for us. However, Beauty and the Beast is my wife's absolute favorite. Soooo being able to meet the Beast again may win out over everything else.

The Beast, the more fine dining type of atmosphere and service and dinner as a TS had much better food. We've enjoyed dinner much more than lunch.

you might end up loving lunch over dinner!!! you will missed
The Beast
The booze
The higher bill

Do we need a reservation for lunch or can we just walk in?
Be Our Guest pretty much requires reservations only. There are some people who manage to get in as walk ups, but that is seemingly quite quite rare.
You can check periodically for reservations and often 30 days in advance you may find some, also the day before since there is a 24 hour cancellation policy.

Just out of curiosity...How do they know where you are sitting to bring you your food? I know you can preorder your food or order it from the kiosk there but how do they know where you are sitting?

Magic...

If you have Magic Bands, they track the RFID in those. If you don't, they give you a special rose with similar technology.

I have eaten at both, and liked them both. I would say dinner is better for atmosphere and the beast. However lunch is cheaper, I like the food here too, and I still get to eat in the castle. This next trip we will be doing both, and are trying breakfast for the first time. We are on the dining plan though and it's super convenient that the B and L are QS.

We've been able to walk up twice with a party of 2, but there are absolutely no guarantees. If you HAVE to eat there, make an ADR. If you don't care if you are turned away or not, you can ask nicely at the podium if they have room for 2. Lunch and dinner are two very different experiences. Lunch is quite chaotic and loud, but the food, IMHO, is good. I actually don't think I would do it as a walk-up again as the line to order from the kiosk is very, very long. If we wanted to eat there again, I would make an ADR solely so I could pre-order and not have to stand in the kiosk line.

If you are simply looking for good QS food in MK, I would recommend Columbia Harbour House.

Bonus question! I see the grey stuff is offered on a cupcake at lunch. Is it true that the cupcake is better than what they offer at dinner with the grey stuff? I remember our grey stuff when we went at dinner to be on a very hard rectangle cake thing. I've seen people say the lunch cupcake is better. Any thoughts?

I've eaten at both but found dinner to be significantly better. I had heard so many rave reviews of lunch, but didn't really find it to be that special. The dinner was one of the best meals we had on our honeymoon trip!
