Are there times you can't get to go camping for a while and you miss it so badly that you will actually sleep in your tent/RV in your own yard or do something else to get you by ?

We invite neighbors over, build a fire and roast mallows and make smores.
Then I imagine I'm at the Fort waiting to hear the boat horn at the marina.

YES!! :)

I'm so anxious to go camping, I read the DIS camping forum, even though we've never camped there, and maybe never will.

Last summer, we went various places, but we stayed in timeshares/hotels and didn't camp hardly at all. We only spent one night camping in the Finger Lakes, (on our way home from Montreal and a trip to Vermont to meet our first grandchild) and my husband and I spent 2 nights camping in a state park in Maryland.

I'm so hungry for camping, I spent last weekend getting all our gear cleaned and organized, and I'm planning to get the tent all cleaned and waterproofed this weekend.

I have a new camp stove on order from Amazon.

We've been having fires in the back yard, but it's just not the same.

My husband and I will go out to our motorhome and play rummy....Hmmm, come to think of it, I'm not sure if it's because we miss camping or we're just trying to get away from the teenagers.:goodvibes

We haven't done any of that but my nightly bible reading has been replaced with perusing Camping World catalogs :)

I'm just kidding, but truthfully I've found myself whittling away several days reading this and other 'camping' forums (WARNING: STAY AWAY FROM 'MOD' THREADS; YOU'LL MAKE YOURSELF A HUNNY-DO LIST 5 MILES LONG BEFORE ITS OVER)

I call it "camping without the sleeping in a tent part". We'll go to a state park for the day and cookout and play in the stream, DH fishes, etc. I bring my chair and read my newspaper or magazine. A lot less work and still the fun parts.

I only have two months to get my MH ready for our next Fort trip. Then only about five months after that for the next Fort trip. We're fortunate we have three kids to blame our need to go to the Fort on....at least they THINK it's for them. :goodvibes

Just had a campfire last night... to cold to feel the fort, though. :thumbsup2

Um, NO.

I love being outdoors but since I am nearing 50 (not there yet) I love camping still but not enough to do it at home. :scared1:

I spent years in Boy Scouts camping. Literally. I worked at BSA summer camps as a kid and now as an adult with two sons in Scouts. I have probably camped an entire year (365 nights) with the Scouts alone over my Scouting career.

Then there was the times getting my new DW (then) to camp in a tent (she's a Holiday-Inn type of girl) and my pop-up nights which, although not updated, are nearly 150 nights.

I'm less adventurous now. I'll take my pop-up to the beach, to the Fort, or someplace special but these days are so darned busy with three teenages it's hard to find a weekend to get away. She-Who-Must-Be-Obeyed thinks camping is when all five of us are free to go and given our schedules that is almost never. And will be less so in the near future.

A whiff of wood smoke from a fire;

A cool twist of the wind;

The scent of citronella;

Pine needles cushion my bed;

Birds wake me to the first daylight;

The smell of coffee brewing;

Is American Idol on yet? :happytv:

yep, we have sleept in the RV in the driveway and then driven it to urban lake to go fishing less than 10 miles from the house.Kids have toy fishing rods to magnetic fish in the bathtub.

Looking forwaed to getting our RV back.

Yep, all the time. We'll spend the day in it, read, watch TV, or just nap.

We even had the fence company come and relocate one side of our privacy fence and widen the gate just so we could get it in the back to camp out in it.

Jeez.....we got the camping bug bad huh?

yes! My kids ask to go and hang out in it. They have been asking to go camping every week now. I'm getting the bug to go too. Just a few more weeks until our first trip of the season. Too bad its not to the fort!

After a long, cold and snowy winter not to mention a lousy, wet spring we can't wait to get camping. Started the opening up cleaning last week, we are getting closer. Now if the weather would improve!

If I get the urge, I have a two man tent and fam tent and we will make a trip to the back yard. There are times the camper is parked in the driveway for a few weeks and I will sit there and have a drink or two and listen to the radio. just thinking with out kids..

Dear Mom,
Our scout master told us all write to our parents in case you saw the flood on TV and worried. We are OK. Only 1 of our tents and 2 sleeping bags got washed away. Luckily, none of us got drowned because we were all up on the mountain looking for Chad when it happened. Oh yes, please call Chad's mother and tell her he is OK. He can't write because of the cast. I got to ride in one of the search & rescue jeeps. It was neat. We never would have found him in the dark if it hadn't been for the lightning. Scoutmaster Webb got mad at Chad for going on a hike alone without telling anyone. Chad said he did tell him, but it was during the fire so he probably didn't hear him.

Did you know that if you put gas on a fire, the gas can will blow up? The wet wood still didn't burn, but one of our tents did. Also some of our clothes. John is going to look weird until his hair grows back. We will be home on Saturday if Scoutmaster Webb gets the car fixed. It wasn't his fault about the wreck. The brakes worked OK when we left. Scoutmaster Webb said that a car that old you have to expect something to break down; that's probably why he can't get insurance on it. We think it's a neat car. He doesn't care if we get it dirty, and if it's hot, sometimes he lets us ride on the tailgate. It gets pretty hot with 10 people in a car. He let us take turns riding in the trailer until the highway patrolman stopped and talked to us.

Scoutmaster Webb is a neat guy. Don't worry, he is a good driver. In fact, he is teaching Terry how to drive. But he only lets him drive on the mountain roads where there isn't any traffic. All we ever see up there are logging trucks. 6:53 PM 02/03/2000 This morning all of the guys were diving off the rocks and swimming out in the lake. Scoutmaster Webb wouldn't let me because I can't swim and Chad was afraid he would sink because of his cast, so he let us take the canoe across the lake. It was great. You can still see some of the trees under the water from the flood. Scoutmaster Webb isn't crabby like some scoutmasters. He didn't even get mad about the life jackets. He has to spend a lot of time working on the car so we are trying not to cause him any trouble.

Guess what? We've all passed our first aid merit badges. When Dave dove in the lake and cut his arm, we got to see how a tourniquet works. Also Wade and I threw up. Scoutmaster Webb said it probably was just food poisoning from the leftover chicken. He said they got sick that way with the food they ate in prison. I'm so glad he got out and became our scoutmaster. He said he sure figured out how to get things done better while he was doing his time.

I have to go now. We are going into town to mail our letters and buy bullets.

Don't worry about anything. We are fine.

Love,
Cole

P.S. How long has it been since I had a tetanus shot?

It is just a way to get out of the house. We own a CG and when DS was young we would stay in our trailer. We would rent a movie and buy snacks. A mini vacation right in our backyard! We also have 2 seasonal campers,(campers who stay with us from opening to close) who live right in our town and 2 others who live in the town next to us! Go figure!! :)

Walking through costco today, my boy 5 - was begging me to camp in the back yard..... Does this mean I have done my duty to get him to love the outdoors????

We are not, due to the MAJOR storm front coming through...
