Seriously, dear, ma'am, honey, sweetie, none of that really bothers me. In the south you hear that stuff all the time. I would almost be offended if those words weren't used.

In the south Dear, hon, sug, babe, sweetie child, and that yonder 'un there are all names that you get used too. you hear them and you say them without thinking about it. I'm used to it.

ps, Im in Idaho. ok so its SOUTHERN Idaho... but still.... Im pretty far North. I used to live in the Yukon Territory and we still did it there so it isnt so much a North vs South thing I think.

Dear doesn't bother me at all. Most sentimental names don't. It is the mean nasty ones I don't like. Like the ones referring to my weight, or something like that.
