"Do You Mind?" - Disney Adventures with Teens August Trip Report

Wow! You aren't going to stop for a very long time!

I love New Orleans -- what a great place to have gotten married! :lovestruc
Where are you guys staying?

Katie's party sounds like so much fun -- I hope we get to see pics!

You are one busy lady! But traveling and keeping busy will help the time pass even faster. You'll be in Disney before you know it.
I know it. I'm glad the time will pass quickly, but I am trying not to get myself into panic mode over not being able to plan like I'd like to.

Congrats on your 10th anniversary. New Orleans is such a great city. Are you going to stop by Cafe du Monde?
Thank you! We love NOLA. Are you kidding me? Powdered sugar fights at Cafe du Monde are standard fare!

You'll definitely need a lapu lapu when August rolls around. We should meet at Tambu lounge for one :goodvibes
We should! Let's plan it as we get closer...

Wow that timeline makes me tired just reading it.
I know it!! When will I have time to read all 72 of my subscribed threads?

Wow! You aren't going to stop for a very long time!
It seems like conference season is busier than tax season!

I love New Orleans -- what a great place to have gotten married! :lovestruc
Where are you guys staying?
We are staying at the Ritz Carlton. Can't complain, and the extended rate we got from our conference for the weekend can't be beat. It is 1 block from Bourbon Street.

We would have liked to stay at the Bourbon Orleans, where we got married, but they didn't have the suite available that we had 10 years ago, and other townhouse suites are just too steep. I'll stick to my comfy bed and incomparable service at the Ritz!

Katie's party sounds like so much fun -- I hope we get to see pics!
I will definitely post pics.

Here is what's happening in our garage this weekend:

Car repairs are never fun for me :scared1:

But then again, I don't know how to do it.

You're lucky to have a husband that can fix things. I only know people who break things.

Isn't Chris a "Winner" ??? What a Step-father!!! Yes, Susan, you did kiss a lot of frogs, but look at the Prince you captured as a result!!!

Pictures of the party preparations

Invitation - outside envelope. you can't tell, but this is a sparkly hot pink:

I have more pictures, but I have to go have lunch with my bestie.

Can't beat the Ritz in New Orleans -- not that I have ever stayed there -- I just imagine it can't be beat! :rotfl:

Katie's dress is soooo beautiful! I just adore it!!!! Thanks for posting those pics!

Susan, katie is lucky, I wish I had parents like you when I was young. My parents were great but you just seem so fun!:thumbsup2 I love the invitations and dress, It is going to be a great party!:cool1: I Hope you can post an update before I leave next Sunday afternoon!:rolleyes1 :rotfl2: I cannot believe how busy you are:scared1:

Wow!
That dress is such a beauty!!! :lovestruc
And to say we don't even celebrate sweet 16s here... well not in that way, not much more than any other birthdays really...
You really seem like such a fun, loving and wonderful family! :goodvibes

Reading about past parties in Grandma Bonnie's post was really incredible! I couldn't belive my eyes! My, what fun people must have when you have something to celebrate! They must wait anxiously, hoping to get invited!

As for your over-the-top schedule for the next months... I so can relate to that... before I got ill, that's about what my schedules would look like. Well, not necessarily filled with travel and parties... (hum... absolutely not filled with those things! :sad2:), but reaching full capacity and nearing explosion!
Don't you love that feeling though? Makes you feel you live a really full life and when you realize you got through it all, tells you you really can do a lot! :cool2:

I hope you still can find some joy from all those work-related trips, because you are truly lucky to have the opportunity to travel so much, even if it's not for long trips or exotic destinations!
And on top of those work-related trips, you will travel some more!

I'd think of it as little stepping stones leading to the big thing in August! Little pleasure bubbles to be had to make you wait for the real important one! ;)

And altough I really understand the fear of not being able to plan it all as you'd like to, I'm pretty sure you'll be able to plan more than you think. Some bits here and there, between a meeting and a conference, or in a plane... Plus the experience you have and those books you read will help a lot! :thumbsup2

And think about it this way : part of what you need for the Disney trip will already be packed, since you'll have been doing so many trips along the way! :rotfl:

Love the invite and Katie's dress! It's a great pink.

Only a few more days until the end of tax season!

Can't wait for Lapu Lapu Fest '08 in August :lmao:
:lmao: Ok, that calls for a logo. We have to come up with something. Pretty soon, everyone will be doin' it!!

Car repairs are never fun for me :scared1:

But then again, I don't know how to do it.

You're lucky to have a husband that can fix things. I only know people who break things.
I am SO lucky. And so lucky that he likes to do it. Only know people who break things - I think I read something about that - or maybe it was drunk dialing? I hope nothing got broken with that.

Isn't Chris a "Winner" ??? What a Step-father!!! Yes, Susan, you did kiss a lot of frogs, but look at the Prince you captured as a result!!!
sheesh - ribbit. :rotfl: Speaking of frogs, remember where that POS car CAME from! I have lost my husband for a weekend, thanks to a frog.:rotfl2:

I have stayed there. The service borders on ridiculous. Last year, I was walking down the hallway corridor on the way to my room. I was talking to my colleague and said "I think I'll go buy a bottled water and then go to bed." One of the staff overheard me and said "Ma'am, I'll get you that water. What's your room number? Is there anything else you need?" I was floored! Love the Ritz!

Thanks for the compliments on the dress. I had nothing to do with it. Katie did text me a pic of it before she bought it, but I didn't pay it much attention. I just asked her the price. She put it on her debit card. I guess now I have to transfer funds.

Pretty dress! The party sounds fantastic.
Thanks so much, I'll tell Katie you said that. She gets so mad at me for posting her "whole life" on the DIS. She just doesn't get it. The party will be fantastic, if she can get over this current tiff with her DBF. That's another story. Teen romance...ahhhh

Susan, katie is lucky, I wish I had parents like you when I was young. Thanks so much. She is our only one, and the only one we were able to have, so we like to spoil her. But we try not to let her BE spoiled. If that makes any sense. Thanks for the compliments. I will do my best to post an update, but not sure what time you're leaving. Maybe I'll upload pics while I'm chaperoning Sat night. It is ridiculous how busy I am, isn't it? I keep thinking something's gotta give.

Wow!

Thanks for the compliments. We are fortunate to have such a close family and such fun. Just today, Katie decided not to buy a crown because she said she doesn't want to be like "My Super Sweet 16". I am keeping it relatively low-key. It's a bigger birthday than any other has been, but still not impossibly expensive or extravagant.

Reading about past parties in Grandma Bonnie's post was really incredible! I couldn't belive my eyes! My, what fun people must have when you have something to celebrate! They must wait anxiously, hoping to get invited!
We make up reasons to celebrate, in this family, and at my work. Maybe I am the one who influences that.:confused3

I'm glad I stay busy. It will tire me out at some point, but I always have something to look forward to in the coming few weeks. And luckily, I like to travel, and my current business travel schedule is much lighter than my previous job (believe it or not), so my family appreciates it also.

I hope you still can find some joy from all those work-related trips, because you are truly lucky to have the opportunity to travel so much, even if it's not for long trips or exotic destinations!
And on top of those work-related trips, you will travel some more!
I always find time for fun in the work-related trips. I really have a good time with that part of my job. The networking cultivates relationships and brings in business, and we always have something in common. I love it!

I'd think of it as little stepping stones leading to the big thing in August! Little pleasure bubbles to be had to make you wait for the real important one! ;)
That is a GREAT way to think about it! Thanks!

And altough I really understand the fear of not being able to plan it all as you'd like to, I'm pretty sure you'll be able to plan more than you think. Some bits here and there, between a meeting and a conference, or in a plane... Plus the experience you have and those books you read will help a lot! :thumbsup2
You're right. I will surely find the time to plan this trip, since it's my current all-encompassing hobby! ;)

And think about it this way : part of what you need for the Disney trip will already be packed, since you'll have been doing so many trips along the way! :rotfl:
You're right on that one too. I keep two separate sets of toiletries. One set is all under 3 ounces and fits conveniently into a single pint-sized ziplock bag. But I haven't been able to find contact solution in smaller than 4 oz sizes, so let me know if any of you out there can find some!

Love the invite and Katie's dress! It's a great pink.

Only a few more days until the end of tax season!
Thanks so much for the compliments. I can't wait for the end of tax season, but as you can see, I'll still stay busy.

I think we should make custom tshirts and wear them in August. The logo could be a giant pineapple with a straw.

Mom's taxes are done and filed. My extension is ready to go into the mail tomorrow (along with 1/9th of the payment I will owe) :headache:

I helped Chris with the car by pumping the brakes while he bled them (I think?). I really don't know what I was doing, other than following directions. But it was valuable bonding time and I think I was helpful. :rotfl:

I finished the shopping for the day, had a great Tex-Mex lunch with my fave jalapeno ranch dressing. Yes, today was my cheat day on my diet. I do it once a week, but so happy with my progress. I am averaging 1/2 lb per week and I'm fine with that - as long as the scale keeps dropping.

Speaking of, yesterday I happened into TJMaxx and found a pair of Size 5 (equivalent, I think) Seven jeans for only $99! I could not believe how well they fit!! I even tried on a size 7 first and they were just too big! What a feeling!! Three months ago, my gut spilled over the largest Sevens available. I had to buy them!! I had been planning to splurge on a pair of Sevens or R&R jeans when I got to a solid size 6, at full price, but when I got to 6, I decided I'll wait til I'm a 4. But then I found these at a great price. I love the way they fit!!! I am SO excited! And Katie wants to kill me. She so wants her own pair of Sevens. She said "Mom, you didn't even know about Sevens until I told you about them! I knew about them first! Why can't I have a pair?"

Anyway, today my scale reached another low that is off the charts from as long as I have been charting. I am just under 4 lbs from my goal (per the charts that say "this is your minimum weight") but 8 lbs from my personal goal. I will keep y'all posted. I think I might get there before the dance showcase June 8th.

Ok, so on with the post. A few pages ago, Mom suggested that I post pics of Katie's room, furnished. Today, I took a few. However, when I told Katie I had taken them, she again said "why do you have to tell my whole life story to the DIS?" and asked me if any of her - ahem - unmentionables are visible. So I have done my best to edit them out with MS Paint. You may not be able to see them. Here we go.

:lmao: I want to see pictures of that. Before the Lapus and after!

:rotfl2:

I have a feeling there will be pineapple everywhere. I'll have to pick out pieces of fruit from my hair.

I'm still looking for the stroller cup holder large enough to hold my pineapple :rolleyes1
