"Do You Mind?" - Disney Adventures with Teens August Trip Report

How was your weekend?

Hope you got some much needed rest during busy tax season.
Weekend was great, but no rest - haha!! I plan to post later, if I don't crash first...

Thanks for asking!

Ok Hi everyone. We are (almost) back. We are on our way home from a weekend in Dallas. We make an annual pilgrimage to the Dallas Supercross event. That's another part of our family life that I haven't really mentioned - motocross. Another story for another day.

This year, my cousin moved to Southlake, so we had an instant place to stay and people to see. So we decided to drive up Saturday afternoon, go straight to Texas Stadium for the race, then head over to Amy's after. We got to her house at almost midnight. Chatted for a bit, then hit the hay (as we used to say down South).

This morning, as planned, we got up and went to Six Flags. It was DH, me, DD and her boyfriend Tate. Also, Amy and her daughter Delaney joined us at Six Flags.

We got there around 11:30 and left around 6:00. It was amazing! This morning, it was a little cool outside, so we started out in sweatshirts, but by mid-afternoon, it was HOT! But there was a cool breeze, so it was bearable.

There were no crowds. The FlashPass desk wasn't operating ("system is down") the workers told us. But I suspect the system wasn't down. They just weren't wasting people's money on FlashPasses that they didn't need. There were NO lines! We rode the big thrill rides over and over and over again. Titan, Mr Freeze, Batman... I rode a few kid rides with Amy and Delaney. Well, with Delaney. Amy is convinced that her body doesn't do those rides anymore. Anyway, all of those were walk-ons too.

So, I say the day was good practice for WDW. More on that in the next post...

Sounds like a fun weekend!

I hope Disney is as empty as Six Flags, but what are the chances?

Chad Reed, of course. Led from the start. Kevin came in 4th. He put up a great fight. The third place almost ran off the track in lap 16 or so and Kevin caught up, but wasn't able to pass him by Lap 20. I loved the video they put together for Windham at the opening ceremonies. Showed his kids and wife. What a guy!

Doubtful in August. I think Six Flags probably wasn't happy about the attendance this weekend. I bet they barely broke even.

Yes David told me last night that Chad had won. Daisy says Chad Reed is "eww."

Sounds like you had a fun weekend! We have a Six Flags here in Atlanta, too -- I've been twice in the 14 years I have lived here -- my children have never been -- maybe I should fix that!

Six Flags yesterday. I called it "practice" for Walt Disney World. Of course we all know that you really can't compare the two as far as an experience goes. But we could practice. I'll share some pictures.

Here are Katie and Tate, and Chris and myself waiting in line for the Titan

Chris's practice attempt at taking photos from the ride. This is near the peak of the Titan. We are still learning to use the new camera Chris gave me for Christmas:

And, finally, Chris and I practicing having our picture made at the character greeting spot:

I also practiced wearing one of my many pairs of new Reefs. My second to last toe now has good practice in getting a blister.

Other things we practiced:
- hydrating
- finding the nearest restroom
- following the park map
- avoiding the designated smoking sections
- walking from one end of the park to the other, just to ride the biggest rides
- riding some of the smaller rides, just for the heck of it, or for nostalgia (can you say "swings"?)
- avoiding the water rides because of the cool breeze
- applying sunscreen liberally
- resting when necessary
- using a locker
- people watching
- riding with our hands in the air for the whole ride
- checking out our photos after the ride
- paying ridiculous amounts of money for food and drinks (when did bottled water become $3.50? a slice of pizza for $7.99? a scoop of ice cream for $5.99?)
- staying alert for the oblivious people who suddenly stop in their tracks for no apparent reason, turn around and start hollering at someone else in their party

I guess that about sums it up! So, do you think we're WDW-ready?

Great pics! Your daughter is just adorable!

Love the practice list -- ALL of those will come in handy at WDW -- although the prices are a little better -- water is only $2.00.

you know I have never applied sunscreen to my body. :confused3 I just don't like how it feels.

nice practicing there and great pics.

I love your photos!

Your daughter is so pretty.

And I love the practice food porn. Did you family think you were crazy? :lmao:

Turn Out The Lights. The Party's Over. Don't It Make My Brown Eyes Blue?
Congrats, Kansas! Memphis Tigers, You're Still #1 in the Class Act Book. Thanks for a great year!

Now that NCAA basketball season is over.............I'm going to DISNEYWORLD!

Such great pictures Susan! It is so nice to put a face with the "conversation". Good job practicing! Hey practice makes perfect right! It looks like you and Katie have the same eyes! Beautiful:goodvibes
