Do you make Easter baskets for your teenagers?

We do not go to church anymore.

So that begs the question do you still do the baskets and Christmas even though it has no connection to Jesus or God?

That is my quandry.

My uncle, who is very Christian raised his children without a belief of the Easter Bunny or baskets and Santa Claus. I think it make more sense that way.

I mean if someone is Christian, why would they celebrate with the tree (which was once a pagan symbol for Decemebr 25th, the day they worshipped the god of trees (or something like that). Constantine made the Christian Christmas that day to convert more pagans to Christianity. It was a good business deal for him. It seems the holiday has always been commercialized, and about money.

I, if I have children, will most likely not be raising them religiously (but you never know) and I know I will want to celebrate Christmas.

That is an easy one. In fact when I moved here to Dallas area, I was like whhaaaat?
Every nationality around celebrates Christmas.:lmao: That was a surprise to me.

They celebrate it as the secular "Santa" holiday and do not connect it to "Jesus".

My mom would always put in candy and a book or two that she knew I wanted or thought I would be interested in. My junior year i got a book of college profiles. Sometimes she would put DVDs in too.

I still make a basket for all of my girls - 13, 18 and 20. I give them candy, gum, gift cards, disney bucks and something like socks or a shirt. I think they look forward to it and would be disappointed if I didn't do that every year!

My girls are 13 and 21 and yes, they still get baskets. DD21 doesn't live here anymore, so I mail hers in a box. DD13's is still hidden and she has to look for it on Easter morning (usually after we get home from church, because we go to the sunrise service and are rushed to get out the door).

There's always lots of their favorite candy and a gift of some sort... DVD, CD, book, Beanie Baby, etc... whatever they might like that year.

Oh yes, we still do Easter baskets! Some candy, itunes or gas giftcards, dvd, books, etc The baskets are on the table in the morning. I also take coins, little toys, some $ bills, and put them in plastic Easter eggs (you know the kind that snap apart/together), and hide them outside. We count - we have about 24 eggs. The kids go find the plastic eggs and get to keep the treasures inside. Amazing how much they enjoy the outdoor egg hunt! We have 5 acres, so there are LOTS of hiding places!

I'm 28 and I still get my favorite easter candy and a new easter outfit just like when I was younger. Of course now, we go shopping for the outfit together. My mom also gets my DH his favorite easter candy as well.

My mom doesn't give me an easter bsket any more. She hasn't for the last five yers or so. Now she just gets me a DVD or an iTunes gift card:banana:

Yep, well she did, now she's no longer a teen and she's still getting one! LOL. But now it's my dh's job. He's always had a sweet tooth and I know he likes to pick out all the best candy for dd. Lindt truffles and some really smooth chocolates, and I don't know what all, he shops at several stores to find exactly the right things.
We also put a few gifts in it. DD collects some stuff so we'll usually pick up a piece for her collection, a gift card or two, maybe a cd, stuff like that.

We are Christians and we've never associated Easter baskets with Jesus. We just set out the baskets with candy. They aren't elaborate--we don't give them gifts. If they wear new clothes that day, they are Spring Clothes, not Easter clothes.

We try to keep Easter as a holy day, rather than a day for celebrating a fake rabbit. We've never done the Easter bunny. My kids have no problem with that. They say, bring on the peeps

My son doesn't like chocolate and only very rarely eats sweets so I won't make him one. I'll get him something though, I just haven't decide what yet.

My guys only want gum and tic tacs. I throw in chocolate bunnies though and end up eating them myself.

I always get an Easter basket for my children. I am placing in my DS17's basket some candy, guitar picks, guitar strings, an Itunes card, and a T shirt. I have a few girlie things for my DD11 along with the prerequisite candy.

That's the way it's always been in my house. :)

Ok, now you see my issue. It is about the chocolate and gifts. It does not include any religion whatsoever.

I have been doing it every year, but now that we have "officially" given up the church, do you still do it?

You have to understand I grew up Catholic, religious for the most part, and it is weird to me to do all of this giving with the intention of it being just about the candy and gifts.

Does that make any sense to anyone here?

DD's not quite a teen yet (she's 12), but, yes, I still do an Easter basket for her, and probably will for years and years. My mom made Easter baskets for everyone until she died, even my oldest brother who was 45 at the time. (Now I make the baskets for my brothers & sister, even though I'm the youngest. They mostly get candy with maybe a couple small cheap toys. My sister's getting jacks and my oldest brother's getting Silly Putty.)

I'm still not exactly sure what's going in DD's basket this year. She's not a big candy hound, so I usually put other little stuff in the basket. I'll probably put in a couple of small B&BW hand gels and sprays, a book (Chicken Soup for the Mother & Daughter's Souls  ), scrunchies, maybe some food gift cards for the mall.

I love making Easter baskets! It's so much fun to shop for all the cute little things don't break the bank.

I make baskets for the adult kids, teen kids, little kids, DH, and my mom! They all love their baskets and I couldn't imagine stopping. I can't imagine telling my children they aren't getting a basket when they asked for one. That is awful!

Thanks for being mean to me. :sad2:

Wasnt' trying to be mean. I just couldn't imagine my kids asking if they were getting a basket and me telling them no. Your kids are still young. Giving them baskets is just a nice gesture.

Yup, still make baskets for my teens and still hide the Easter Eggs. DD is 17 and I have 2 DS's, ages 15 and 11.

For DD I make up a traditional basket (even though she told me not to ;) ) and I add some new Spring Clothes. Heck, she is going to ask me for them anyway.

DS15--Traditional basket and probably some gift cards. He is a tough one.

DS11--Traditional basket, DVD and maybe a video game.

Easter is my favorite Holiday--I love all that Easter stands for. :flower3:
