I have been meaning to post about this ever since our November trip where at the Hoop De Doo we met people who said they were living at the Wilderness Camp grounds. Then when I saw the Travel Channel Holiday special it reminded me about it again.....
.......the camp grounds where people have everything decorated for Christmas...how cool! I would love to live there for a winter or whenever!
Anyone want to share??? Details?
Who else can say they actually live in Disney World?!

I saw that too and I was fascinated! Wouldn't it be outrageously expensive?

It would be really cool, though. :)

Can you get the dinning plan the whole time you stay??

That's what I was thinking?
How much? How long could you stay?
I was jealous! Hey, I don't camp either but that kind of camping I would definitely do to live in Disney World?
I mean how does their mail come? Walt Disney World, FL

:scared1: Can you even imagine eating that much all the time?

I bet that it's probably pretty doable for a lot of people, especially if their RV was paid off. They could get AP discount or FL resident discount on the campsite.

I would love to hear from someone who does it wouldn't you????

OT I think we are shutting down in a few:guilty:

I guess if you have a steady retirement income, it wouldn't be all that expensive. Looks like prices for campsites range from $41-96 a night (depending on season, if it's "preferred", etc) Even a preferred with full hookup is only $55 a night most of the winter, $58 for mid-November through just before Christmas and then jumps to the $96, but that's only a week.

Compared to snowbirds who buy condos in Florida, it's probably a lot cheaper. Especially considering they wouldn't have to pay any utilities . .. and if the camper is already paid in full.

My DD has a friend whose Mom takes him to WDW for 6 weeks or so every winter - pretty close to living there - we are JEALOUS!

We had a long talk about this at a Scrapbook Retreat once. Someone had looked into it. There are some Residancy laws and requirements that prevent you from just renting a campsite full time. But I think they said you could get one for about 6 months and then would have to leave for a certain amount of time and then could come back after a few weeks. I am not certain on the details.

It would be cool to find out!

For those who saw the Disney special the second couple interviewed about living there are very well know to the regulars at the Fort. the lady, I forget her name passes away this past week from cancer. There is a thread in the camping board with info on how to send a card to her family. WDW is even collecting mail for them.

OK, and I had to do quick math out of curiosity. Before tax (because I'm not getting THAT into it, LOL) from August 29th (start of value season) through pre-holiday season, through holiday season, and through the next value season which ends on February 14th . . . roughly $9851. There are people here on the DIS that spend that for a one week trip. Look, you can get 4 1/ months!

And you get all the Disney magic.......WOW! That could be cool!

How sad............:guilty:

We have several friends who full time at campgrounds. They pay for the year, but pay much less per month in the warmer months when they are back up north here. Many are headed to Florida now (you can "meet" them at IRV2.com).

FW used to have a special (I don't remember seeing it for the past two years) for six weeks of camping. It was fairly reasonable. We've chatted with some of the people who are there for the winter. Most eat at their RV's to save money (and to not get fat!), and some we talked to seldom even go into the parks.

Can't imagine living there for any length of time and not going into the parks. This would be ideal for me. I always said I wanted to be a snow bird and there is no better way but to be a snow bird at Disney World. :cool1:

When I was staying in beach club two years ago one of the cast members told me that they have a couple that comes in and stays for 3 months. Vacation club members, they use beach club as there winter home.

I've met quite a few people who spend the entire winter here in an RV, but they don't stay on WDW property. There are many RV campgrounds nearby that are much more reasonable for long term rental.

I know one guy who actually lives in the northeast. Every year around October, he drives his RV down and lives here until about the end of May. He works at DTD at Days of Christmas. His wife stays at their home and just comes down for an occasional visit. He has done this for many years.
