they say you have lost enough weight...???

I come from a heavy family/friends.....and was heavy most of my life. I am 38 now and over the last couple years have lost about 55 pounds. Those darn numbers are what I am concerned about on that scale. In my eyes, I want to loose about 15 more pounds.

My family especially is telling me if I loose anymore.....I will "loose my looks"....whatever that means....and also had a DH of a close friend tell me the same thing...to stop now......but it is those darn numbers that really get me!!!!!!

My younger sister just on mothers day at my parents house told me (she has gained quite a bit of weight and is trying hard to loose) that she would never want to be as "skinny" as I am....she said "you are starting to look like something is wrong with you"

I don't know.....I don't at all consider myself "skinny"....never have and probably never will.........

Has anyone had to deal with family members/friends with this.....my DH just won't say anything more cause he knows I won't listen.......but, with my dd's communion a few weeks ago and hearing all the comments.......I don't know....sometimes I think I may be obsessed...or starting to be............

any opinions???

thanks
Lisa

I have had some people say that to me and I just laugh it off. I know I am not skinny.....I do look great compared to being 200+ pounds, but I would not catergorize myself at skinny. I too have about 12 pounds to lose until I will be ready to stop, so I just ignore what everyone says and appreciate the compliment. Only you know where you will be comfortable being.

Last May doc told me to get down to 130. (started at 165). I passed that and went to 120. Alot of people were telling me not to loose more, etc. I didnt listen to them. What I did finally listen to was the doc last wk telling me not to loose any more. "you look good where you are but dont loose anymore". So now Im trying my hardest to maintain at 120lbs. Using fitday I enter my foods and my exercises and try to get the #s close. Im finding it actually harder (cos I havent done it long) trying to maintain.

You feel comfortable in your own skin. People want you to stay the way you are for selfish reasons, because that is the way they like to see you or remember you. Only you know what is comfortable for you. If you want to lose 15 more pounds do it. Do it for you. No one else carried your weight around for you but you and it was something that you did not like. Now that you are losing it feels good and you want to get to your goal. DO IT!! Lose your 15 pounds, feel great about yourself and don't worry about what others (unless it's your Dr telling to stop) are saying because they will always have comments good or bad.

Lisa:

I think you should decide for yourself. Use good judgment and don't go overboard.

I see you live in St. Clair Shores, Michigan. I grew up in St. Clair Shores! (I now live in Sterling Heights).

Wishing you continued success with your diet!

Hi Lisa,

I really want to say that if losing those last 15lbs is going to make you happy then DO IT! But before I say that I would need to know how tall you are your current wgt and your bone structure(ie small frame med frame lg frame).

I know that when we lose wgt people around us can say(although not to me yet;) ) "you're getting sickly looking - you're too thin etc..." And sometimes its from jealousy or feeling like they won't fit in to your new "thin" life - but sometimes its that people do get too thin and to obsessive with the scale numbers - remember you have been exercising developing lean muscle mass which is heavier than fat.

Think about when you first started to lose wgt and the size clothes you wanted to be in are you in them? I don't mean to be a downer just want to make sure you are not getting too obsessed with the scale numbers. You are probably not but I just wanted to make sure.:D

And antmaril....where in the shores did you live? I am in the 10/Harper/Jefferson area.

Lisa:

We lived at 12 and Harper. I graduated from Lake Shore High School. I still own the home in St. Clair Shores. My parents are deceased and I rent the home to my niece.

It's really is a small world, isn't it?

I am in your boat lisa, I am going through the same thing here.....
I have lost just about 55 pounds and would like to lose about 20 more, and everyone is telling NO...... I am all about the scale too.... sometimes, I even think my friends tell me to stop losing cause they still want me to be fatter than them lol.......
Anyway, I say go for it and if your comfy there, stay at that weight.........
I am going for 20 more pounds, as long as I am happy thats all that matters.........

let me know how you do.........
