I never ate rhubarb until I was married. Now, I like it but it took some getting used to. At the grocery check-out yesterday, the clerk couldn't find the right code for rhubarb until he thought to check under vegetables!

Yes,

Rhubarb Bars, rhubarb cake, I found a recipe for rhubarb bread I may have to try.

Oh my gosh, thank you for posting this! I tried rhubarb pie for the first time ever a few months ago and yesterday I was trying to think of the name of it and I could not for the life of me remember what it was called. So thanks for that! :teeth: But yes, I thought the pie was really tasty. That's the only thing I've ever tried it in though.

I had rhubarb pie once in Florida, and it was really good. Is rhubarb a Northern thing? You don't hear too much about it down south.

I've never had it. What's it like? For some reason the thought of rhubarb pie just doesn't seem good. Maybe I should try it.

I don't know much about rhubarb but I just made a pie. Earlier this week, I made rhubarb crisp (that's with an oatmeal/flour crust). I had to get used to its tartness; I prefer sweeter fruits. But, rhubarb is the stalk of a plant whose leaves are poisonous so it may not be a fruit.

My grandmother would cook the rhubarb in a liitle sugar then add strawberries and strawberry jello. The rhubarb prevents it from getting firm like reg jello. It's more like a sauce Yum!

I do think rhubarb might be more of a northern thing since the rhubarb plant goes crazy when it gets pretty warm.

I love rhubarb!! And not that strawberry rhubarb stuff either!!

I love rhubarb pie- but it has to have lots of sugar in the filling, or it is just too bitter/tart. My mom used to make it every once in a great while- but not too often. She hates rhubarb.

When I was a kid we would break it off the plant, dip it in sugar and eat it raw!! I dont think I ever really liked it but that was what ever one else was doing so you know I just HAD to do it too!! :rotfl:

I love rhubarb. I will even clean and eat the stalk don't need to be cooked.

We LOVE rhubarb and I haven't been able to get it here in the Florida Panhandle. It doesn't grow here, and I've called every grocery store looking for it. The Farmers Market didn't even know what it was! I finally found a little bit at the local food co-op but it was only enough for one crisp. I froze the little that was left and maybe it's enough for muffins or pancakes. I can't find anyone online to buy it from either.

MIL came for a visit this week, and only brought enough for one pie :sad2: (which has been made and eaten).

I saw a recipe for rhubarb daquiris that sounded kind of good. And rhubarb sauce (like apple sauce) is great.

There is a site for those interested: http://www.rhubarbinfo.com/

It states:

Rhubarb is a vegetable with a unique taste that makes it a favorite in many pies and desserts. It originated in Asia over 2,000 years ago. It was initially cultivated for its medicinal qualities, it was not until the 18th century that rhubarb was grown for culinary purposes in Britain and America. Rhubarb is often commonly mistaken to be a fruit but rhubarb is actually a close relative of garden sorrel, and is therefore a member of the vegetable family. Rhubarb is rich in vitamin C and dietary fiber.

I'm sure it's a hit with many folks, but for me, I'd rather stick needles in my eyes.

I love rhubarb, too!!! :Pinkbounc My mom used to make rhubarb pies all spring long and I was the only one in the family that would eat them (Mom did too). The neighbor kids would come over and we would pull it out of the ground and eat it raw, right there in the garden! I really couldn't do that now.

I don't really have a garden but the one thing I had to plant was rhubarb. I couldn't find it in stores. Rhubarb daquiris sound yummy! :bounce:
