Do you like oatmeal?

I've tried it but it just doesn't beat a bowl of GRITS for this southern girl!:)

I have a box of grits here - that I needed for some other recipes - but don't have a clue as to how to fix it plain or how you're supposed to eat it.. LOL

You know what is so good -- Maple & Brown Sugar-flavored oatmeal with a scoop of Cool Whip mixed in.

I'll have to tell my DGD about this.. I'll bet it's something she would like to try..:goodvibes

Love it..make it w/milk also as I like it creamy. I have Blueberries or Raisins in it and swirl some Maple Syrup in it before serving. If I don't have Maple Syrup I add some Brown sugar. Yum. Comfort food.

Aren't grits kind of like Farina, except not made to be sweetened like Farina? :confused3

I like oatmeal, but it has to be "real" oatmeal. None of this instant stuff or even the "quick" oatmeal. I like the slow-cook kind, a nice Irish oatmeal or Bob's Red Mill 10 Grain hot cereal. I'll add a scoop of protein powder to it and maybe some ground flax seed or wheat germ.

Well I ate my cold oatmeal - yum - and now I'm tired.. LOL

So - it's off to bed I go.. Night all! :)

I like the idea of adding protein powder to oatmeal. I hadn't thought of that. :thumbsup2

As a pre-diabetic, I'm always looking for ways to up my protein to carb ratio in foods. While I do make oatmeal with milk & the fiber in oatmeal is definitely a benefit, adding protein powder would definitely be a boost. :)

Nite, C.Ann! :goodvibes

After I got my appendix out several months ago, the one thing I *craved* was oatmeal and in fact all hot breakfast cereals! Even now, I'm fixated on them! I think it's because cream of wheat was the first thing they fed me in the hospital after not having had anything non-liquid to eat for 5 days :scared1:

It was this completely tasteless paste-like substance with no toppings (I threw a packet of white sugar and some milk on top :scared:) but I loooooved it :lovestruc OMG the best thing I've ever eaten in my life!!

Weirdly, the one other thing I craved after the appendectomy was hot spicy stuff. So now I have a ton of different kinds of hot sauce as well as hot cereals in my house -- never really cared about them before!

My Mom's stand-by meal has been a packet of flavored, instant oatmeal - until we discovered the sodium content! Way too high. So I've told her that we can make it just as quick with the 2 minute oats and syrup or sugar added.

It's one of my take-to-work breakfasts. I add sugar-free pancake syrup and a handful of Craisens.

I remember hating oatmeal as a kid and thought my brothers were disgusting for eating it (granted they would mix and match all the flavors ). Anywho now that I'm grown, I love oatmeal and eat it most mornings.

I like the plain instant kind and then doctor it with raisins, nuts and cinammon. I find the flavor packets to be waaaaay to sweet and the fruit and nuts really go a long way of adding natural flavor without the extra calories and sugar high!

Speaking of breakfast foods, has anyone tried the new Cheerios flavor called Banana Nut? OMG it is to die for!! It tastes exactly like banana nut bread. I usually hate sweet cereals but this stuff is perfect. I am now completely addicted and eat it dry as a snack everyday

I can't stand hot oatmeal but love using it to make muesli. This is our recipe.
2 cups old fashioned oats
1-1/2 cups milk
1-2 teaspoons of orange blossom honey
Mix and cover. Let sit in fridge overnight. IN the morning, stir in some vanilla yogurt, or your choice. Stir in fruit. It is so yummy and good for you.

I only like the maple and brown sugar kind. No milk, no anything else in it, just as it is.

My Mom told me I first tasted it in the hospital when I was 3yo... I have LOVED it ever since!!!

The rest of my family would eat grits, I'd be eating OATMEAL!

My favorite breakfast food EVER!!!

You mean like dry out of the package, or you mix it with water instead of milk?

I love oatmeal with just a little brown sugar and a tid bit of milk!

Yep. I like oatmeal. Not that flavored stuff. The real kind that you have to cook. A little sugar and a lot of milk. Mmmm.

I love oatmeal, but somehow it feels like more of a cold weather breakfast. In the summer I usually eat "fibre first" cereal with raisins. My favourite way to make oatmeal is overnight in the slow cooker, with added raisins, diced apples and lots of cinnamon. I love walking downstairs in the morning and smelling that wonderful cinnamon/apple smell. And the oatmeal is deliciously creamy, even though I make it with water.

Oooh that sounds good. I love oatmeal but I don't eat it that much because I am too lazy to cook it. I would love to try making it in the crockpot. Care to share you recipe? Thanks:goodvibes

I am an oatmeal eater as well. I have it for breakfast 3x a week or so. I can tell a big difference in my well being and my metabolism since starting to eat a real breakfast like oatmeal. I use the quick oatmeal with skim milk. I've added in all kinds of things to keep the variation going. Today it was half a handful craisins with a few small pieces of dark chocolate.

I also try to add protein powder or flax seed when not adding in other things. Another good way to add protein is to mix in a teaspoon to a tablespoon of natural peanut butter. If you add it in while really hot, it just melts into the oatmeal. I don't like peanut butter much but this is a nice quick additive.

Yesterday it was oatmeal with half chopped up apple a dash of cinnamon and nutmeg and a touch of honey. Last week I put in a mashed banana and some walnuts.

We also bake alot with the oats in cookies and breads.
