Do You Like Fruit on Lettuce Salads?

I love lettuce salads with fruit on them. Lately I've been making them at home with mixed greens, chunks of fresh honeycrisp apple, halved red grapes and strawberries, mandarin oranges, along with glazed walnuts or pecans, goat cheese, dried cherries, and raspberry vinaigrette. Sometimes I add pieces of crunchy dried apples on top too.

Ken's has a great apple vinaigrette dressing too, but the only place I've ever been able to find it is at Kroger. I need to stop there next time I'm near so I can get a couple bottles.

Just wondering if others like fresh fruit on their salads, and do you make them at home or order in a restaurant? We were on Mackinaw Island last month and ate at the Pink Pony, they have a really great salad with apples (fresh and dried) and gorgonzola cheese and a champagne vinaigrette.

Sounds delicious!

I love all kinds of salads. And yes, salads with fruit and cheese are delightful. (I'm a particularly big fan of anything with blue cheese!)

I order them in restaurants when we eat out, and I also make them at home. Mostly during the summer, when I can get fresh fruit from the farmer's market. Most of the fruit I get in the winter is frozen, and that doesn't lend itself well to salads.

LOVE them!

We have a mixed berry salad here in our food court/cafeteria of our office building that has lettuce, strawberries, blueberries, craisins, mandarin oranges, sliced almonds, gorgonzola cheese, and the most delicious raspberry vinaigrette ever. It is thick and made from a real pureed raspberry base with just the right amount of vinegar. I could seriously drink it by itself! lol

I also love to make a strawberry poppyseed salad - sliced strawberries, mandarin oranges, red onion, slivered almonds, and poppyseed dressing. It's so fresh and light - the perfect side dish in the summer!

No but I saw a dressing today that sounds as though you’d enjoy it...
Target had the Panera brand Fuji Apple dressing in their refrigerated section.

I love kitchen sink salads! DH will throw lettuce and a couple of tomatoes on a plate and call it done. My two favourites are one like you've described (I also add pears) and a taco salad: lettuce with ground beef seasoned with chili powder and cumin, black beans, avacado, corn, tomato, green onion, jalapeno, shredded jack cheese and broken tortilla chips. I make the dressing with spicy salsa, tomatillo and sour cream.

Thank you, I will definitely look for that next time I'm at Target! :)

Oh, yes, pears!! But they must be fresh. I once had a wonderful fruit/nut/cheese salad that was topped with pears, but they were canned and would have been so much better if they were fresh.

I enjoy eating other people's taco salads (like at pot lucks or open house type gatherings) but I've never made one myself.

I love most berries, mandarins oranges or apples in my salads. Not a fruit, but I also love adding candied pecans. Now I’m hungry!!

Always looking for interesting ways to dress up or change salads. Love fruit and nuts on salads. Different kinds of beans, boiled eggs...many different veggies as well. Going to look for
Ken's Apple Vinaigrette...sounds really good.

Yes. It's not always the style of salad I want to eat, but quite often I will make or buy a salad with fruit. I like the little sesame snack sticks with fruit in my salads, especially when there are strawberries.

Yep, I almost won't eat one without some kind of fruit. If I'm making them at home they always have apples and cranberries, then whatever fruit I have in the fridge - grapes, watermelon, pears, cantaloupe - whatever. I always have some sort of either feta or blu cheese in the fridge and that goes on as well. If I have avocados, I throw a half of one on too, if I don't I buy store bought guac. and mix that in instead of dressing. I normally put some grilled chicken on top of mine but have been known to eat it without. In the hot months - which is April through the end of Oct. here in Georgia, salad's or cereal are my go to suppers, I don't like heavy meals when it's hot.

I have a very serious problem with craisins in my salad. It kind of hilarious because I feel like every restaurant has a salad with them in it. I cannot stand them.

I think I’ll start a petition...

It's funny. I'm really not a fruit person. I don't generally eat fruit on it's own. But put some lettuce underneath it and a couple of nuts on top and I'm all over it.

There are so many things that are technically fruit. Does that count? Stuff like tomatoes, avocados, beans, cucumbers, olives, artichoke, etc. So yes if those count.

Yep. Although I like some, like peaches and strawberries more than other fruits on salads, with all kinds of cheese, feta, blue, gorgonzola, manchego, whatever is in the fridge, etc. Add nuts and it sounds like lunch! Pumpkin seeds too!

Here's a dressing recipe you might like...its incredibly easy (all dressings are). I use fresh strawberries since I never think to buy frozen fruit:

I've also used this recipe and threw in canned pumpkin to just see if it would be good, it was!

ETA: I don't use the sugar most of the time, or just a bit in it to taste.

No way...

My mom loves to eat turkey and cranberry sauce together, and it makes me want to gag.

Fruit and sweet stuff must stay with its own kind as well as the savory stuff. I am a food segregationist.
