Do you like Disney World or Universal more? And why?

We don't go to Disney or SeaWorld........have no inclination to go to either place for very different reasons......but I never feel the need to go and announce it on the Disney boards........who would care!!! I never really knock Disney.......many folks love it and that's ok........we just don't want to go there anymore.......

This is a wonderful attitude to have! While I favor Disney the same way, I can appreciate that different people will like different things. Universal's appeal is understandable, and they are right to appeal to different types.

Besides, I am always happy to hear people staying away from Disney. The less people there the better...for me!

I have to say Diagon Alley was stupendous! The train ride was so cool. But everything else was just okay. I don't do thrill rides and Universal doesn't offer many shows. We went late September and the lines were insane. It might have been because of HHN, which were also insane even with Express Pass. The only thing I liked was being able to go from one park to the other and to our resort....so easy compared to traveling between parks. But I vote for WDW every time!

Right back at ya Pete...........

You found HHN queues insane even with EP?

We have EP every year and last couple of years most times houses have been been a walk on........we go numerous nights over our trip........longest line was 20 minutes.

During the day we walked on every ride with EP. Again, longest was around 15 minutes one day for surprisingly enough Transformers..........And we were there in September for 18 nights leaving Oct 3rd.

Me too!!!

When I am at the motherland/Disney, I want everyone there to go to the darkside/UO

Then when I move from onsite wdw hotel resort to UO, I am wishing all the homies back to Disney....

I like my parks with as little peeps in them for better crowd control and line waits

Schumi if you ever change your vacation dates to mid October, you'll find hell week makes line waits long for the parks and evening hhn

Oh totally......we did October Hell week a good few years back........it was more the crowds that were unpleasant than the queues for the houses.....decided to stick to mid to late September after that.......much more civilised...:thumbsup2

Just realised it was 2010 last time we did Hell week!!! Wow, time flies.........

I was planning oct 18 and 19. Should I hold off for the following week to avoid these hell week crowds?

Yes, don't know what was up. Never seen it like this. We still had fun, but gave up in the afternoons and went to our pool. We played mini golf at night. We did love the tour we did of three of the houses in the day...but I don't think we will be going back.

Universal for me, EP is the game changer. Rides are better and the cost is much less. Also, with the Preferred AP, walking down to the Valet and having my car waiting for me before most get to the garage is priceless.

Tell me how valet parking and the preferred AP works.

I am sorry, I have the Premier pass. I purchased in July last year just before they changed and added an additional level of AP. With my AP I get free valet parking. I pull in,( the valet parking is located on the Park Side of Universal BLvd just past the City Walk people bridge), tell them AP and they give me a ticket. Head towards the parks. Valet parking escalator is just before the last city walk moving walkway. When I want to leave. I hand the cashier my ticket, Show my AP, sometimes my ID, and there is no charge. When my car comes I give them a stub from my ticket, hand the valet $5.00 and Off I go.

Universal. Because it's not Disney.
Disney. Because it's not Universal.
My point being they are different parks and I enjoy them both for their differences.
Two different experiences for me.

I half-heartedly checked out some prices for Disney this fall. $600/night for club level at AKL. Last time I stayed Club at AKL there were room service trays in the hall the entire time we were there, and the walk to the always-crowded lounge was quite long.

I did my first "real" UO trip last month and I already miss it. And our Club King room at HRH was $319/night with AP.

Honestly, part of me wants to STOP being a UO cheerleader in other threads ... once too many people come to the dark side it will turn overpriced and overcrowded just like WDW. :)

Speaking of fall ... my MiL is planning a fall trip. Is there a good time that isn't horrendously hot but won't affect days too much with HHN crowds?

As I said we were there same time as you and we went every day and never saw anything like that. Your version of insane queues must be very different to mine.

We walked on everything with EP apart from the one TF ride that was 20 minutes, that was a definite one off .........and with EP we never waited long for houses at HHN.......most we walked on to with no wait.

What about the first couple of weeks in November?

We waited in one que for an hour and a half because something wasn't ready in the Krampus House. That was the start of the night. Toward the end of our very long waits, we purchased the Express pass for night two. It was better but.... the cm's rushed everyone along, so you would know where all the scares were going to happen because there wasn't enough time between people. Don't get me wrong, I've always loved HHN...but we enjoyed doing the "lights on" (can't think of what it's called) tour better than the normal experience. We did three houses that way and found we saw so much more of what was inside the houses. It was just so cool! And...the daytime at Universal was really packed and we didn't go on everything we wanted to go on. The heat probably played a role as far as enjoyment, don't like the heat, so we decided to stick with our local haunts and try some new ones closer to home for the future. We have a really amazing one here in NH at a Corn Maze. I think this will be our go to haunt from now on. Overall, we still had an enjoyable time.
