I don't watch the show like I used to, but it is a classic. Especially in this day and age of reality shows playing to the lowest common denominator, it's something special to having biting, intelligent humor on the air. Like any show, it's had its ups and downs. The ups, though, are way up.
Example: Homer and Apu travel to India to visit the head of the Quikie Mart Corporation (a 7-11 type store). As they walk up to this huge building made of marble, there is a man sitting on a throne (presumably the head of the corporation). They are allowed to ask him three questions. Above him a sign is shown (just briefly): "Master knows all," with "except combination to safe" in smaller letters underneath.
Now THAT'S comedy.
