I personally love them. We went to one in Lake Tahoe last year that was so good we went back the following evening. Buffets have lost their popularity around Vancouver B.C. Too Bad. The prices have gotten too high but I guess the restaurants need to charge for good quality food. I'm going to a casino buffett tomorrow.

Nope. I can't get past the unsanitary practices of others. :crazy2:

I was at the grocery yesterday and they have a salad bar and hot food area. This woman was letting her kids run their hands over everything and stick their head under the sneeze guard to look at the food. It was gross.

I like the variety and a chance to try a litlle taste of different foods that are available on a really good buffet. I dont like the run of the mill buffet where kids are running all over getting into the food.

Which buffet did you go to in Lake Tahoe? we will be there next month. Did you go to Reno?

I only like buffets with Princesses, Pooh or Mickey at them.

<SCENE> Ryan's Steakhouse. Southern Indiana.

CHARACTERS: 10-year-old boy. Twenty-something heroine.

Boy walks up to buffet with a (semi) clean white plate. FILLS plate with corn. Takes hand, covers mound of corn. Dumps nasty corn juice from plate back into unsuspecting steamplate of corn.

Heroine never eats at buffet again.

::yes:: I like to choose odd choices. And there is always something that appeals to me.
I don't go too often, I tend to eat too much

I got excited when I first saw this thread.....I thought it said "Do you like Buffett"...meaning Jimmy Buffett, which obviously I do :lmao: . But then I took a closer look......No, I do not like buffets !! The kids do though, so we always eat at a couple at Disney.

Oh that's just not right. Kinda reminds me of the little girl I saw at Target a couple weeks ago who thought it was a good idea to lick her fingers and then put them on the Icee machine...all while her mom said NOTHING!!! GROSS! I made sure that while they were walking away, I politely told the girl working behind the counter what went on just loud enough for them to hear me. YUCK!

I do. My kids are crazy and love all kinds of different foods. If I try and buy all the crap they like, it'll spoil in my fridge. It's cheaper for me and hey, no dishes.

I like the food, but I have a couple of problems with them:

A.) I just eat waaaay too much. There's something about having unlimited amount of varied food that just makes it terribly difficult for me not to overeat. So I usually avoid them for that reason.

B.) My other problem is that it makes it hard to have a nice, leisurely social meal together. It's always loud and chaotic with people constantly hopping up and down to get another place. It makes it really difficult to visit with your dining companions.

I love buffets, but where I live I look up their health violations online. It really depends on what their record looks like.

I was surprised to see that my favorite Chinese buffet place down the road had 3 critical violations within the past month, like the health inspector witnessed a worker tasting the food from a serving spoon. :scared:

NO! NO! NO! NO!

I think most buffets are just plain nasty. I've worked at restaurants that did buffets (Friday night seafood and Sunday Brunch) and you don't want to know what happens in the kitchen. The smell of scrambled eggs in a steam tray literally makes me gag, even to this day 18 years later. Most buffets are large quantities of mediocre food. I would rather pay the same price for one plate of hot, fresh, cooked to order food than an all you can eat buffet. I need to watch my diet so try to go for quality over quantity.

my in-laws took us out to lunch on Mother's Day a few years ago. We went to a favorite restaurant, unfortunately the restaurant decided to do a special Mother's Day buffet and would not let me order off the menu. so I sat and chatted and drank an iced tea while every one else ate. I now offer to cook on Mother's Day and invite them over. I make a few things ahead of time, DH grills meat and it works.

there are exceptions of course, but they are few and far between. I LOVE the breakfast buffet at Paris in Las Vegas. But I get fresh cooked eggs and waffles and such which makes a huge difference.

We do eat at buffets. Mostly because DS is three and when you have a hungry child the instant gratification of a buffet is a very good thing.
