I'll echo what others have said--I'm not a huge fan of any buffets around here, but the ones at WDW (especially 1900 Park Fare and the breakfast at Cape May) are fantastic!
I enjoy buffets, but I usually do check out their health dept. ratings which are published in our local newspaper. Chinese buffets are good and I generally like Golden Corral. My favorite buffet ever is Shady Maple Smorgasbord in Lancaster County, PA although it's been many years since I've been there.
No, we really don't care for them. We never go to one unless we are at WDW. DH doesn't even eat at them there! He never goes to breakfast with us if we are going to a buffet. Although we usually go to 1900 Park Fare for breakfast. I like that I can get a made to order omelet and I have never been grossed out there by the buffet. We usually go to Boma and have eaten at Biergarten too.
We went to the Norway Princess Breakfast this summer and I liked the fact that the main dish was brought out family-style and the pastries and fruit were on a buffet.
I like the variety and a chance to try a litlle taste of different foods that are available on a really good buffet. I dont like the run of the mill buffet where kids are running all over getting into the food.
Which buffet did you go to in Lake Tahoe? we will be there next month. Did you go to Reno?
I used to work for Harrah's Lake Tahoe when I did my culinary apprenticeship. I worked for 6 months in the Forrest Buffet. It is at the top of the resort, and was amazing. Being up there when a snow storm was coming in was amazing!
We will make the trip to eat at Wellivers in Hagerstown IN. It has been a family favorite for many years. The menu has unusual items you don't usually find in restaurants. I miss the watermelon pickles they no longer serve!
Yes, we like buffets. I don't think about the germs. Who knows what goes on in the kitchens of restaurants anyway. We just returned from Tahoe. Ate at Harrah's buffet - it was ok. Ate at Horizons which was $5. less and better food, IMHO.
