So do you like asparagus?

I made asparagus tonight to go with dinner - fresh not canned. I cooked up about half a bunch (13 to be exact). I'm the only one who eats asparagus so I figured that'd be plenty. I also heated up some canned green beans for my DH since he won't touch asparagus.
I told my DD (soon to be 4) that she had a choice of green beans (she eats her age three times - so 9, since she really doesn't care for them but she has to try them) or asparagus. She said asparagus please. I thought yeah right and put 3 spears on her plate fully expecting to hear an "eww, this isn't good" within seconds.
Before I could even serve myself DD was asking for seconds. I didn't believe it, but sure enough they were gone from her plate. Had I not seen her eat the following six spears I would've thought she'd fed them to the dog. Little rat ate 9 of "my" asparagus spears all told and I ended up with a measly 4! At least there's some for tommorrow night. I have an asparagus lover!:woohoo:

I love asparagus but it has to be cooked just right..if its too mushy or not cooked enough I wont eat it. I prefer thin asparagus to thick though. The thin ones just have more flavor in my opinion.

Me too! I love when my grocery store has the thin stuff. I sometimes wonder when all they have is the thick stuff if their produce buyer has ever even had asparagus before. The thin just tastes so much butter.
I'm all about the texture which is why I can't stand the canned stuff. Much too mushy. Ick!

I think its ok. The town I lived in in Germany has Asparagus Fest.

I LOVE asaparagus! It's funny--both my mom and I LOVE it, but my father, brother, and husband HATE it! Maybe it's a female thing, lol. Fresh is the best. Canned is just so mushy.

I love them with Butter & Salt. My DD10 only eats the spear not the tip.

I never thought of that. My mom, sister and I all love it (now it seems my daughter does too), but my dad and husband hate it. :scratchin

My mom and sis only eat the tips and not the spear. Me, I devour the whole thing (as did my daughter). Never tried them with butter or salt. I'll have to try that sometime.

I love Asparagus.
I was once told by a grocer that the small tender ones are the first of the season, and the larger ones are later.
The small ones are by far more flavourful. I usually wrap mine in foil with butter and ground pepper and throw it on the grill for about 5-10 minutes.
It's so yummy.
Actually a bucnh of us were at a friends cottage one summer eating Asparagus and the discussion came up about how your urine smells afterwords.

Schwan's has the BEST frozen asparagus! I have loved asparagus since I was a kid and you are right, sometimes at the grocery store it isn't the best but the Schwan's stuff is so good. We have never had a bad box of it. The nice thing is that you can take out a handful, cook it up and put the rest in the freezer so when your munchkins eat your servings, just grab a bit more and cook away. DH used to hate asparagus until he tried this. All of our kids love it too.

I used to hate it, but now I love it! Funny how your tastes change, as you get older.

I love it. My new fave way is roasted in the oven sprinkled with olive oil and kosher salt. Yum.

My family loves it! I like to melt butter and add cornflakes to it and then pour that on top of the asapargus. Yummmmm :goodvibes

Ummmm, grilled asparagus now that is good stuff! I'll have to try making that at home some time. I usually just steam it in my microwave for 7 minutes and eat it plain.
I tried to warn my 3 year old about asparagus urine.:rotfl: She thinks when she has to go now it's gonna be green! At least she's excited by the notion.

Oh yeah, roasted is good too! I haven't done that in a while, but I like to roast a bunch of different veggies at once so they all kind of pick up each others flavors. Oh I can't wait until dinner tomorrow night!

love it covered in Hollandaise sauce:banana: I hear it makes your pee smell, I'm just going to take people's word for it:rotfl:
