Do you let your kids open a gift on Christmas EVE?

A friend of mine was telling me the other day about their Christmas tradition, and I thought it was so cute. They spend Christmas Eve at her parents' house. Just as dinner is over, and all the kids are playing games, watching TV, whatever, they hear the "reindeer" up on the roof, i.e. PawPaw stomping around up there. They've stopped by early to drop off their pajamas before heading off to deliver toys. They run out in the back yard to find the packages that fell from the roof.

We do the new Pj's thing as well. No presents are put out until they go to sleep. I don't think they could handle it, they are so excited about the new pj's, making cookies for Santa and reading "twas the night before christmas".

This is us also. New PJ's and a book opened on Christmas Eve after church. Set out the cookies and milk. Read book in bed and go to sleep. We started doing this with DD when she was 1. We don't set out any other gifts or else she would want to pick which one she gets to open.

My parents and Sister started doing the PJ thing last year when they heard about us doing it. They think it's pretty cool. :)

We also give new pj's on Christmas even and at 9 and 11 my girls can't wait to see what new ones they get each year.

After Mass we spend the evening with just our immediate family. Have a special but simple dinner, make cookies for santa and just chill.

We give one gift to each girl from DH and I, usually something special but not necessarily $$. I like to separate our gift from the santa stuff especially when they still "beleive".

This year we are traveling to DBIL and DSIL's so it will be a bit different but we will try and keep most of the traditions. They will still open the pj's and our gift on Christmas eve, a Disney Cruise! Even if this wasn't our tradition I don't think I could wait until Chrismas morning to give it.

We always opened all gifts on Christmas eve and then got "santa" the next morning. I guess everyone has their own traditions.

This is what we do.

Our kids get to open on gift on Christmas Eve. It is usually something from a Grandparent or each other because we don't set anything out until after they go to bed.

Santa magically comes and brings the gifts while our DS does his part in the children's Christmas Eve service at church. We open presents that night when we get home from church. This way we aren't up at the crack of dawn on Christmas Day opening gifts and can sleep in a bit. We also found it a challenge to get to Christmas Day services at church if we had to tear him away from his toys.

We always let the kids open one gift on Christmas eve. It is always a fun gift. Never pjs!

When I was a kid we opened all family gifts on Christmas Eve. Christmas morning was for Santa's gifts.

When I was younger, I remember driving around neighborhoods and looking at the lights and singing Christmas songs.

We have dinner, they open their jammies, put them on, and then we bundle them up in blankets and drive around the neighborhood looking at lights. Recently we added a stop at Sonic for some milkshakes to the itinerary, but it used to be going home for hot chocolate. Then putting out the cookies and milk and off to bed.
This will be the first Christmas that my SO and I have lived together and he is actually getting his daughters for Christmas Eve. I would love to do this with them. They are 8 years old, where can I find pajamas for them?

We let DS open all the family gifts (from MIL, BIL, etc) on Christmas Eve. Gifts from Santa and us are Christmas morning. :)

DH, I, and the kids do our presents to each other on Christmas Eve, before our company arrives.

We also do new PJ's on Christmas Eve. The kids get their PJ's on then we load in the car to go look at Christmas lights. After lots of caroling and sightseeing the kids are usually asleep by the time we get back home.

Well after 12 years I finally gave in and will let dh ( oh yeah and the kids) open ONE gift this year.

I *thought* we had conprmised by having "Santas Helper" come on Christmas Eve while the kids were in the bath with new Pjs and a book but no, apparently that isnt good enough.

So I gave in and we are changing this year.

Great thanks. Those reindeer pants are sooo cute. Does old navy run pretty close to regular sizes? I know Old Navy usually runs big for me and currently the girls are wearing size 8 (medium) in most stores.

The kids can open Christmas gifts from Grandmas and Grampas whenever we are visiting (Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, the Day after Christmas, whatever). Christmas gifts from Mom and Dad, Santa, and distant relatives have to wait until Christmas morning.

I have always let my kids open their gifts to each other on christmas eve and DH and I always open our gifts to each other on christmas eve also.

Same agenda in our house!

When my girls were little, I let them open one or two presents from friends or family on Christmas Eve. It acted as a release for them - they were so excited about Christmas, they just couldn't stand it!!!! Getting a gift out of the wrapping paper seemed to settle everyone down a little bit - or at least enough to proceed with Chrstmas Eve traditions, which are, of course -

Put on pajamas (new some years, but not all)
Drink hot chocolate while Mom reads the story of the Christ Child from the same book her Mom read to her when she was a little girl
Put out milk and cookies for Santa
Go to bed!!!!
