use the excuse "I'm just saying", as if that's supposed to make it OK?
This is a HUGE pet peeve of mine. I knew someone named "Patty" (does not post on the Internet at all, FYI
) who liked to offer up suggestions or observations, such as "you know, I know a plastic surgeon who could take care of that nose" and then when you'd say, somewhat offended, "Geez Patty, thanks a lot but I think my nose is fine", she'd say, offended, "I'm just saying...".
It's become quite the joke in our house to use the expression (we all, unfortunately, knew Patty, until she moved out of town)...we've named it a Patty-ism.
Why do people think that "just saying" something is somehow better than...saying it???

For example, I won't say, "No offense, but you're being a real jerk." I would use it to say, "I don't mean offense, but you are coming across pretty harsh." Kind of different, but I could see where someone would take offense by it.
