No, and to be honest, I probably wouldn't keep him/her as a friend if I did.

Yes i have a friend like that I call her my "toxic" friend . When i bought DVC i was afraid to tell her b/c i didnt want to hear her lecture me about how i live above my means. I think on some level these "friends" are jealous or they just have low self esteem ,b/c in there world they feel better about themselves while putting others down.

Or at least I would say something to her - like "You know, I work really hard to provide nice things for my family. If it makes us happy, then what difference should it make to you?"

Well, I think this person is just a "high end snob" unlike me. Heck, if I was living beyond me means I would've bought the Canon Rebel (or whatever that expensive brand is), not a Kodak Easyshare 4mp for $149 LOL and I'd be looking at a Benz instead of a Saturn LOL.

Ahhh, I think I'll let this friend go because I'm really quite sick of it at this point!

I have a friend who has recently started bragging about all her stuff. It’s as though she is trying to bait me into competing with her. I think it all stems from the fact that she is trying to get everyone to like her fiancé, even though we know he treats her badly. I think she thinks we’ll like him if she brags about all the stuff he bought her.

On her last visit, she bragged about her new Ethan Allen leather sofa (mine is a cheap cloth sofa, but it’ll certainly do), her Maytag drying center, her fiance’s John Deere riding lawnmower (to mow the oh so spacious yard of her 1300 square foot house—sheesh!), how they own a home (we rent an apartment), etc. She really is a good friend, but it just tears me up that this jerk has had this type of influence on her.

All of my inlaws are like this. Everything we buy is "crap" and we spend too much money. But if they buy something, even if it is the exact same thing we have that was previously "crap" until they get it, it is the greatest find in the world!

My MIL wouldn't get a microwave until just a couple of years ago. She just plain out refused to spend her money on junk. Now that she found a used one for 10.00 at a yard sale it is the greatest invention ever made! The way she gushes on about it, you would think that she has the patent on the darn thing.

I am still waiting for the day she gets cable tv. She has a 13" TV in her living room, no remote with a VCR hooked up because she refuses to "pay" for tv. It is a nightmare when we go over there, the only channel that comes in clear is PBS, which I don't mind, but I like my "ripoff" cable tv! Give me my choices of what "junk" I want to watch and rot my brain.

I have a "hello" friend (coworker) that is usually good for a comment or two in situations like that. It does not bother me in the least. In fact, I make it a point to report the purchases to him just so I can push his buttons. The fact that his comments mean nothing to me seems to make him more frustrated.

I have a bil like that. He always buys the best (by his standards) things and then if we decide to go with something cheaper he always finds someway to insult it

I'm happy with our purchases, that's all that matters ....that and the extra money we still have in our pocket for being frugal.

or the comments about our brand spankin new home being too close to a proposed road...hello it's been proposed for over 4 years and has no funding allocated for it yet...we move for my job every 3-4 years so who cares? oh please don't get me started on stuff..

We have friends like this. They are "name-droppers". They are exhausting to be around, and constantly ***** about money and their debt. We try to avoid them when possible, but sometimes we visit when we get something new just to torque them up. Mean, isn't it.....
