Do you know how to layer Jello?

I would like to put one color Jello on top of another color. I know that the package says Jello should set 4 hours. How long should I let the first color set if I would like to put a second color on top? Thank you.

I think you have to put them in diff. bowls and let them firm at diff. times. Like the 1st one for 15 min, then the 2nd for like 10 min. Firm enough that they wont mix, but still need time to firm completly. I haven't tried it, but I think that's what my grandma tried to teach me one time

You can "quick set it by making it according to package directions using ice water then put it in the frig for an hour, when you make the next layer make it the same way using ice water- this way the warm jello solution will not "melt" the set layer- This is time consuming but the result is cool especially if you slice it. I make a layered Jello dessert every 4th of July. I make all the jellos at the same time, but I refridgerate each layer for 30 minutes before pouring the next one on. The ones I'm not using yet are just sitting out. This is using the 3 oz. boxes of jello. I'd refridgerate the layers longer if I were using the big boxes of jello.

I've made a jello that's similar to lasagna in it's layering. It's really neat when it's done and always is one of the first things to go at a party.

Instead of cold water, I use vanilla ice cream. I take the 1/2 gallon and divide it into 6 somewhat even slices. I use a small package of jello and mix the 1 cup of hot water. Then add a slice of ice cream and mix until it's melted. Pour it into a pan and let it set for about 1/2 hour.

1/2 hour later, spread a very thin layer of sour cream on top of the jello being careful to not press hard. Let set about another 1/2 hour.

When that's set, take another flavor/color of jello and make it again with the hot water and slice of ice cream. Lay it on top of the first layer - gently. Don't pour it on top of it will puddle. Let that set.

Repeat until all 6 slices of ice cream are gone (or more if you choose until there is no more room in the pan). Don't forget the layer of sour cream between the jello layers.

I think I need to plan on making it sometimes soon.

Ice cream is our house is always Bryers so that's what I use. I suppose any better vanilla would be good -- I'm not sure about the cheaper brands.

I've done pink & blue for baby showers. Red and green at Christmas.

Usually, I just use whatever flavors I pick up at the store. I use a lighter color and then a darker color. Purple followed by a yellow, followed by green, followed by orange. With jello these days, there are so many different flavors/colors and that's easy to get a nice rainbow effect.
