I'm freelance, so health insurance doesn't include dental. does anyone know if dental plans are worthwhile? most I have found are around $100 a year and have large discounts on services (50-60%+ on exams, x-rays, cleaning, fillings, etc). I am used to go to the dentist twice a year, having x-rays and the occasional cavity. Boo on that. :(

And can you recommend a good plan to go with?

Thanks for your information!

Honestly, I have been working in a dental office my entire life and I have never seen one of these "dental plans" come into our office. Your biggest problem will be finding a dentist that ACCEPTS this plan, most do not.

If you have really good oral health then it is usually cheaper just to pay for your cleanings and fillings out right rather than get insurance.:wave2:

I have Delta Dental. My twice yearly cleanings and x-rays are free. They cover fillings 80/20 up to $1000/year (they pay 80% you pay 20% until the total is $1000 in the year and then you max out for that year). Root canals, crowns, braces are at 50% with a cap similar to the fillings but I don't remember off the top of my head what it is.

Every dentist in our area accepts this dental insurance plan. I get it through work so it is really cheap...don't know how much it would cost if you got it independently.
