Do you/have you ever 'known' any Olympic athletes??

I got to spend about 4 months training with Dennis Callin who was on the short list for the 1984 Olympics in Dressage (Equestrian). He had the most awesome horse - sold him for $300,000 back in 1985. Also have had the opportunity to meet and be judged at horse shows by a few Olympic Dressage riders over the years. Some are really nice and some are not......

My grandfather.

He was the Dutch national champion (sprinter) and a bronze medalist for the Netherlands in the 1924 summer Olympics in Paris. I have the medal framed and hanging on our wall. My kids love to bring it in for show-and-tell during Olympic coverage years.

My former boss was on the 1972 Olympic soccer team for the US. We had a long talk about the whole experience (remember this was the hostage Olympics). He said that the entire US team stayed together, and that this isn't how it is today. He mentioned that Mark Spitz was the only exception back them. But now most elite athletes stay in separate locations, etc.

I also trained with Cheryl Kolonick (sp) who was a member of the Tae Kwon Do team back when it was a demonstration sport in Seoul. And I got Kay Poe and Stephen Lopez' autographs after they had competed in the 2000 games (also Tae Kwon Do).

I know Evan Lysacek, who's on the Men's figure skating team in Torino right now. He's from the next town over from me, and about five years ago I went over to the rink and met him and his mom. They're really nice, and it's so cool that he's in the Olympics now!

He skates tomorrow and Thursday...I can't believe it's tomorrow already!!!

I have met Michelle Kwan and Greg Louganis thru friends. Liked her, not him!

My parents were good friends with Betsy Mitchell (swimmer) and I hung out with her older brother.

Ever run across Mark Phillips or Princess Anne? Talk about someone to watch-their daughter Zara is good!

No - had an opportunity to go to a clinic with Mark many years ago - but they wanted huge $$$ for a 1 hour spot. Plus the costs of trailering my horse across country - just wasn't feasible. Would love to someday though!
