Here if it falls on a weekend it's up to the employer if they want to give a day off in lieu of it. So it's mostly union places (post secondary insitutions, governement, etc) that are off on Monday. Most private companies are working.

Schools only are closed if it falls during the week. So there is school on Monday.

If it was on a weekday most everything will be closed with retail stores opening after 1 p.m.

My office is open although courts are closed. Most attorneys I know use those days to catch up on non-courtroom work like depositions, drafting and trying to dig through the piles accumulating on your desk. Technically, I make my own schedule so I guess I could work or not but I will be working.

It's a Sunday. No work for me. If it had been a weekday, I would be working.

Here it is Remembrance Day. I do get it off (well the 12th), but very few places do. In my province it is not a statutory holiday - so most places are open (including schools). This would be true even if the 11th fell on a weekday.

I never lived or worked anywhere that I got Veteran's day off, or the schools were closed.

I work Monday but get holiday pay. My lil sis gets the day off (Catholic school, don't know about the public around here), as does my mom. Think my younger sis has to go to class in Nebraska, lol.

Schools here are closed on Monday. Most employers have work. I'm not really sure if the banks and post office are open, but I think that town hall is closed. My job is ALWAYS open, but it's not a day I am working, so it doesn't affect me. If I normally worked Monday, I would get holiday pay plus time and a half for working (union job).

My daughters are off from school on Monday for Veterans Day. It's not a holiday at work for me and I have to work. We get very few holidays at work in exchange foer getting the day after Thanksgiving off and the time between Christmas and New Years as paid time off.

I work for the DOD; it's definitely a holiday for most of us, though not for the ones in harm's way or pulling alert or doing the duties that must be staffed 24/7. I'm a veteran, so this is MY day. I'll go to the local ceremony on true Veterans Day and relax on Monday.

I work a job where we are open 365 days 24/7. We alternate holidays. I am assigned this holiday. I am also working Thanksgiving. I worked Christmas 2 years in a row so I am off this year. Next year I have both major holidays. :thumbsup2

I work in the financial industry. Even though the banks are closed, the stock market is not, so off to work I go.

Stinks because it's supposed to be 70 degrees here in NH on Monday!!!! :worried:

I work in a school, and we do usually get Veterans' Day off, so they gave us Monday this year.

It is on a Sunday, I don't work weekends anyway. But I'll be working Monday! :) I don't think the schools in our area have it off, since they just had off for the election (they use the schools as polls).

Schools are polling places here in California too, but they don't close for that.

Again, not the norm, Chicago, and Peoria public schools take it.

As a private sector worker I understand why I don't get it, but Veterans Day is a pretty standard school holiday, kind of unAmerican not to take it.

Like I said earlier, I never had off for Veteran's Day and neither do my kids. They also go to school on columbus day and MLK day.

I can't name one school in our area that gets the day off. Most schools have veteran's day programs for the community and school.

I don't think you want to tread into "unAmerican" territory.

Yep. I am surprised that our schools do not close for Veteran's Day as we are in a community with 2 military bases and many retirees. But we don't, unAmerican or not. :confused3

Our local Veteran's are well appreciated and honored all the time. This weekend has many Veteran's events going on and a local school held a breakfast for military veterans last week.
