Do you have trouble going back to a standard room after being used to a villa?

We are going on our second DVC trip in January, and we took advantage of the Annual Pass room discount to book two nights at the end of the trip at the Poly. I have always dreamed of staying there, but now that we are DVC members I am worried that our family won't enjoy it as much.

DH and the kids have really enjoyed having the space of a 1 bedroom villa. We are spending 7 nights at BWV (1 BR Standard view) before we spend 2 at the Poly in a standard theme park view. I know that most people think you should put the bigger room at the end of a split stay, but this was last minute and I'm not seeing any possible way to switch it around.

Am I worrying about nothing? Is the Poly nice enough that the smaller space won't bother us? I'm really concerned that, at that point in the trip, we are going to want to relax...and, while the Poly resort is beautiful, the rooms no longer impress me like they once did.

The other option we are considering is switching to a 1 BR Savannah view at Kidani for those last two nights..we love it there and won't be going too crazy on parks at that point, so the transportation won't be as much of an issue...

Yes, a little bit.

I had a conference at the CR in January. Conference rooms get whatever is available and I hit a jackpot. High floor, MK view at the end of the building so as close to the MK as you can get. I couldn't have asked for anything more. The room was remodeled, large, wonderful view, quiet. And yet I pined a bit for my 1BR villa. :rotfl:

I have another conference this year and will be at BC before moving to a villa. I've been going back and forth whether to just book my own room on points and skip the hotel but at least I know I'll finish with a villa.

When I bought DVC, my mom said I was crazy to spend all that money. After a couple trips in a 1 bedroom, she loved it, she told people about our "apartment". About 3 years later, we decided to take a quick Halloween trip and I got a room at CBR. After we got there she said "I don't like this one room". Spoiled....::yes::

After 10 days at Aulani in a 1 bedroom we stayed 5 nights at the Disneyland Hotel in a standard room. (VGC was booked and we were outta points) Definitely hard to get used to. DVC has definitely spoiled us.

When my DS was about 3 or 4 we were in a regular hotel room (not at Disney) and he was "where is the fridge, where is the microwave?" he's been totally spoiled by DVC.

Yes and no. While DVC has provided us much larger accomodations-location and resort itself still means far more to us. EX we would take a BC regular hotel room over an OKW or SSR 1BR or even 2BR. Great resorts-just not what we prefer. If we have more in our party we would take 2 BC rooms instead etc. That said we of course would take a BCV 2BR (or 1BR) over a BC hotel room.

The 1st thing that my son and in fact anyone who's traveled and shared our DVC with us says, when staying in a regular hotel room, "it's not as nice as the DVC resorts" and that holds true for me as well.

If you enjoy space and won't be doing much in the parks at that point, then the 4 of you spending more time in one room is going to be difficult, at least it would be for me.

Am I worrying about nothing? A bit, after all it's still vacation and it's not like you're booking a Motel 6 room, you'll be on Disney property!

I would switch to Kidani in a heart beat! Frankly I think people obsess way too much about bus transportation. When you're on vacation 10-15 minutes plus or minus here and there on a bus, is not that big a deal!

Here's my 2 cents!

Thanks for all the responses...I appreciate the input! I think if it were just me, or me and DH, the standard room would bother us much less. The kids add an extra element, especially on nights 8 and 9 of the trip!

And I agree about location and resort. If this were a case of Poly standard over SSR 1 BR, then I don't think I would be so torn. AKV is our home, and we love it there. IMHO, Poly and AKV both have great theming and views, so the big difference is location and convenience to other parks, which at the end of a 9 night trip probably won't matter as much...at least that's the conclusion I'm drawing so far...

Here's my 2 cents!

Thank you for your input on my situation! As DH and I talk it over more, we are really starting to think it might be best to stick with what we KNOW we love, at least in this particular situation. The transportation at AKV didn't bother us either...but neither did the "long hallways" at Kidani. And you're right...anywhere in Disney is great! :thumbsup2

I do not see myself ever staying in anything less than a one bedroom anymore. Life is too short and my family is too tall.

almost never stay in the villa - when I do consider it a treat.

now studios stay in alot. this happened in the 90's. Mother and I had stayed in OKW studios (my points) - for about 5 years. the whole time she complained about not staying at the Polyn - so next trip we stayed in the Polyn. (that was when it was a bargain 22 points per night) studio was 8 points per night for Dec.

so that trip she kept saying how she wished we were at the OKW (DVC then).... for 4 nights that is all I heard.

so for then until BWV was build - we stayed at OKW. she found other things to complain about.

so even staying in a studio - you will miss your DVC resorts - staying in just a hotel room.

although since then they have improved Polyn - it now has a small refrigerator in the room.

:thumbsup2 You are so right. I just called and changed our reservation from the Poly to our "home" at AKV. I feel pretty great about it. After 7 nights at BWV, it will feel great to stretch out and watch the animals! And.....BOMA!!!

I think it's just not meant to be that I stay at the Poly yet...maybe down the road they will build DVC at the Poly and we will buy more points. Or maybe we will just go to Aulani!

Thanks to everyone for the replies! I am so excited for our 9-night BWV-AKV split stay! :cool1:

I would do what you decided, go to Kidani and skip the Poly!:thumbsup2

We are getting spoiled staying in two bedroom villas every time we go. So nice to have the space, especially with two teen daughters...they get their own bathroom!

It doesn't bother us much. We have done it a few times since becoming members and the only one we didn't care for was the value resort rooms. They were a little tight.

Yes, it's hard going back to a regular room/studio after staying in a 1br. Even for the 2 of us. He likes to go to bed early and I like to stay up and watch TV. Love the king-size beds and the laundry rooms. Totally spoils you.

But then again we can stay longer and go more often if we stretch our points by staying in studios a couple times a year. Priorities. ;)

Not if there is only two of us, I stayed at POR before our recent trip and enjoyed it very much.
