After several trips to Disney you would think I know the answer...but I don't.

Do I have to stay on Disney property to get a dining plan?

Thank you!

Yes, you do. You also have to purchase a MYW package, or if you are an annual passholder, you must book a room plus dine package. Also, DVC members can add the dining plan to their reservations.

Yes, you need to stay onsite at a Disney operated resort. You cannot get the dining plan if you are staying at the Swan, Dolphin or Shades of Green.

To take the OP's question one step further....

I'm going to be staying on property of a conference. I have an AP, my DH (who is going with me) does not, but I will be purchasing park tickets for him.

Can I get the dining plan for him? I'm thinking that I won't need it b/c most of my food would be covered by the conference.

I'm thinking we'll probably end up just paying OOP this trip, but I've been mulling this option over.

Thanks for the responses! Our dream is to stay onsite again, but with a timeshare, we save so much money. I will continue to buy my lottery tickets:thumbsup2

Don't forget to add the resorts on Hotel Plaza BLVD which are across the street from Downtown Disney Marketplace to that list.

Not if you are booking your room through the conference. Dining plans are only available with MYW package reservations (except for DVC). Not only that, but if you decide to forego the conference room and book the AP ticketless package, everyone in the room must be on the same dining plan, so you couldn't get the plan just for him.

Do you mean your conference is on Disney property? If you are staying on Disney property (note the exceptions in pp), everyone in the room has to be on the same plan. As an AP member, you can add the dining plan onto your (Disney) room, but you would have to add both of you. Since most of your meals are covered, doesn't look like the dining plan would be a benefit.

Also, you can by tickets from Undercover Tourist at a bit of a discount. They will quote a price that includes tax and if you wish to purchase, they will mail them to you at no charge.

The only way I can think of to do that would be to book the room in his name, with just one adult in the room, with the DDP and whatever tickets he needs. Then, at checkin, have him add you to the reservation. Obviously you couldn't get whatever discount that comes with being with the conference, though.

You'd also be giving up whatever discount you could get buying his tickets through Undercover Tourist as he'd have to purchase the ticket with the package.

Yeah, I didn't think there was a way to work around it. I'm getting such an insanely good price on the room through the conference, that I'd lose money booking the room in his name.

My thought was that it would be easier for him to just pull out his KTTW card when he was wandering around Disney and I was in meetings. Then it occurred to me....he CAN just pull out his KTTW card and charge food to the room, he doesn't have to worry about having cash and/or his wallet with him.

Thanks guys!
