So we are looking to host a Wishes VR. We have to choose wishes since the guest count for Escape cannot exceed 18 people. In all honesty, Escape would have been perfect for the reason that we do not want to have a "formal" reception. We have already did the big wedding, so basically what we wanted was a ceremony, photos, carriage, flowers and a very nice "informal" dessert party in Epcot. I know we would have to meet the min. $$,which would not be a problem with the other extras that I want(Ex. Mickey & Minnie)but i cannot find the answer to if you HAVE TO HAVE a 4 hour. reception.

You have to meet the minimum food and beverage expenditure, which ranges from $100-150 per person depending upon the time. I guess you could ask if you could just have a lot of desserts at the dessert party.

Well Mickey and Minnie can't come to an Epcot dessert party so you might have to have something if you want them there.

My DF and I are kind of wanting to do the same kind of thing. He really wants a low key all day event at Fort Wilderness without a traditional 4hr reception, but we also have to do Wishes due to the # of people in the family!! My understanding is that as long as you meet all of the minimums you are ok although I am finding it difficult to meet the minimums without having a reception so not sure what we are going to end up with!

I think you could make it work if your informal DP had more than just desserts, like buffet food and a lot of expensive alcohol but as someone else said when would the characters come.

Would you be allowed to do a cake cutting ceremony like Escape weddings instead of the reception? Then, your cake and beverages could probably count towards your minimum and you could have the characters there. Later on, you could have your DP with more than just desserts like another poster mentioned. I don't know if this would be possible though.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I keep missing the wedding planner's phone calls(or whatever they are considered)to go over such details. Hopefully we talk to her soon. As far as the characters go, I mainly wanted them for pictures right after the ceremony. Not sure if that is allowed or not.
