Do you have to enter the park before converting to a DVC AP?

I bought DS and DH the 7 day DVC park hopper and we'll convert them to an AP on our upcoming trip. My question is do they have to enter a park before converting to an AP or can we convert at Guest Relations before entering Epcot?

They don't need to be used before doing the upgrade.

Note that there’s no price benefit when you do this. Because you purchased the 7-day DVC ticket, you’ll only get the price you paid credited towards the AP. You can probably call the ticketing folks now and have them refund your 7-day ticket and sell you the AP.

Right, I do realize there is no price benefit. I'm not expecting to gain anything from a monetary perspective. We weren't planning to buy the boys AP's but it turns out they are going to join my daughter and I for Spring Break.
