Do you have to be onsite to purchase?

If we take the DVC info tour while in WDW this winter and decide we want to buy into BCV but can't until its available in the Fall 2002, would we need to travel back to make the purchase, or could this be done through the mail?

I thought I read something about some states not allowing timeshare purchase out of state??? We live in CT. It's difficult for us to travel in the Fall, so I want to avoid it if possible. Can anyone clue me in?

We're from Ma and I'm almost positive that Ct is the same. We bought through the mail back in 1991 without even seeing it so I am assuming that you could do the same. No problem at all, everything was handled perfectly. We have added on and did this through the mail also. I don't think you will have any problems at all. Good Luck and an early Welcome Home!!

We live in CT too, and were not onsite when we made our purchase this June. We were in Disney last Nov. and took and had a little time to waste before heading to the airport. We were at the BW and spent about 45 min. with a DVC guide, an unplanned walk in. We took a the presentation book home with us, and finally decided when the points were going up to take the plunge and purchased 200 VWL points. Everything was done through FED EX. Hoping to make reservations for our first trip to HH next spring (hope to get lucky with 7 mos. ressies). Was the best "wasted" time we spent, I think.

The only thing is that for new resorts, you have to wait until they are registered in your state before you can purchase by mail. Some states take longer than others. I've heard that New York is pretty slow. Maybe someone from CT can indicate how long after VWL went on sale that it was registered in CT, and that would give you some idea of how long BCV might take.

DVC_JOHN is right on the money. We are from CT, and bought BWV over the phone last August. Everything was done using FEDEX and a credit card. When we were at BWV in March on points, we also did an add on at VWL. At that time (March), VWL was expect to get cleared in CT in a few days even though VWL was opened as a DVC resort in November of 2000. So, CT is a little slow for approval, but not as bad as NY. In summary, yes, everything can be done over the phone as long as it is cleared in your state. If you want to buy BEFORE it clears your state, you must be there and do it in person.

Interesting note; If it is not cleared in your state when you buy, they won't even mail your duplicate ste of paperwork to your home, you must take it in person.

Hope this helps.

P.S.---Jim McCoy was our DVC 'telephone' guide, we also met with him in person in March to do the add on. I highly recomend him. He was extremely knowledgable, and friendly. You won't be sorry for asking for him, and him alone, as your guide when you call.

Another thing to think about if you are financing: When we toured in 96 we had 30 days to purchase and get a reduced interest rate. When we bought in 98 this reduced rate was no longer availlable to us since we were beyond the 30 days.........spruce

SPRUCE is right too, HOWEVER....... we told our guide Jim McCoy in August that we wanted to split our purchase between BWV and WLV, 275 pts each. But since WLV was not available for sale yet, we were worried about the Disney financing option expiring on us. Further, we wanted to buy WLV when we were down there in March of 2001, so that we can see them, as we have never seen the WL resort area. Jim told us that would NOT be a problem, and was glad to hear up fron what our plans were. He marked our 'computer' file, got authorization from his supervisor, (which took 1 minute), and we closed our deal.

Yes, we did get the special interest rate in March too, when we didi our WLV purchase. Just like Jim McCoy promised.

We were able to get special financing in May, even though we purchased from home and had last taken a tour in September, 2000, because we were purchasing at a "new" resort and had never received a presentation on VWL before that time. In September, we looked at BWV.
