Do You Have Telephone "Issues"?

I have what I would call a big fear of making and receiving phone calls (and talking on the phone to a certain degree until I've done it a time or two). Not a phobia, but issues for sure. I don't like to make calls unless I'm sure who is going to answer the phone. I will usually answer if someone calls me, but mainly because we have caller ID and I can see who is calling before picking up. When the caller ID doesn't work I panic. :scared:

Seems that a lot of DISers who I've discussed this with also have phone "issues". Is it just the people I know here or is this common with us? :) How severe are your problems if you have them? Do you not like to make/receive calls or is it the actual talking that you don't like to do? Once I'm on the phone I'm usually ok and can talk for awhile, especially after I've talked to a person a couple times.

Geez, I wish I had your number. I'd call now, but block the Caller ID. :teeth:

I have no phone issues. Unless I'm not in the mood to talk, in which case I don't answer. :)

I hate making phone calls to people I don't know. I only answer my phone if I know who it is, I even blocked private numbers from calling my landline. However, I still use the phone and talk on both cell and landline quite often. And its always to people I know. Right now, I have been procrastinating calling WDW for vacation, and I have questions that need to be answered. Eventually, I will make the call, or have a friend do it for me while I dictate what needs to be answered.

Nope, no issues. One of my jobs even included working the switchboard.:hyper2:

Daisy, the funny thing is that I often take a deep breath and answer calls with blocked numbers...often it's because I get really snarky and figure it's someone trying to sell something and I'm all about a challenge. :woohoo:

89, that surprises me! Geez, that sounds just like me. And your WPASADI post sounded just like me, too. :scared1:

buzzlady, I'm wondering how I would do if it were my job. :confused3

I hate the phone. I hardly ever answer it and only make calls that need to be made. I do not answer calls that do not show up on caller ID. I have several friends who call to chat and catch up. They know I hate the phone and are usually forgiving, yet they keep calling just to chat. My best friend left me a message last Saturday- I was just sitting here thinking how I need to return the call when I saw your thread. So I responded to it instead. You are not helping the situation.

I tell all my friends/fam that if they call from a unknown number to say who it is when the machine picks up. I never answer unless I know who it is since I am avoiding telemarketers LOL.

Also one of my neighbours has a phone that drives me nuts..when I am on the phone and she tries to use her phone, it interfers with mine and I can hear her conversation..when this happens I hang up with whoever I am talking to and call them back since I am paranoid she can hear my calls too LOL.

I have phone issues. I hate to make calls. And I generally don't like to receive them.

You know I could call you right now but I'd have to hang up before you answered because I don't like talking :rotfl2: .

This is sooo me! I hate talking on the phone - to the point where I'll go out of my way to get someone's email so I won't have to call them. I'm not a shy person so I don't know why this has all of a sudden popped up.

Irony is that this is so opposite from when I was in middle & high school. ;)

korbbec, CALL! :rotfl:

What inspired me to start the thread was the fact that in 2 days I talked to 3 DISer friends...one I've talked to before, but 2 I haven't. And one of them I actually called myself a little while ago. VERY unlike me. OK, I called her to ask her about the mouth rinsing thread she'd started, but still. If I can do it, anyone can. :teeth:

I do NOT like to talk just for talkings sake. If you have something to say then say it and HANG UP. I NEVER call anyone without an express purpose so if I call you consider yourself important. I just freeze when I'm supposed to be making small talk, even with Dh. He calls me every day at lunch. I refuse to talk to him for more than a couple of minutes if there's nothing important to tell him. It's our noontime quickie. 30 seconds, wham, bam, goodbye ma'am :rotfl:

CED, let me check to see if I have your number in my cell.....

Hmmmmmm, I do...........

ETA, I can't get up the nerve to call CED! :scared:

Why does that surprise you? I'm actually a shy person. Once I get to know you though, forget it..I'll never shut up :rotfl: Actually, last night I was on the phone with a DISer friend for an hour, but that is because I know her. If I know who I'm calling, then I'll call, but if I don't know you...fat chance of me picking up the phone first. And which WPASADI post? I made a few today.

No issues other than I'd rather have my toenails pulled out than talk on the phone. I can end a conversation really fast. I have caller ID too and I usually don't answer unless I know who it is. And sometimes I don't answer because I DO know who it is :rotfl: If I have to call and take care of something on the phone, I have to be in the mood. Depending if I need to be nice or firm, I have to "get into character". :rotfl2:

I'm like Shugardrawers- I do not like to talk just for the sake of talking. My friend- she is a talker. She will keep me on the phone for an hour. I call, make plans to hang out and I'm done. I even do it to DBF. As soon as there is a pause in the conversation I say "okbye" real quick like and hang up. At first he was a little put off, but now he just laughs and says by.

OMG :rotfl:

I couldn't call a DISer. I have assigned you all "voices." If the one you spoke with didn't match, I'd be freaked. What if Paige has a deep voice, like Suzanne Pleshette? That would be all wrong!

I also hate, hate, hate the phone. I wouldn't exactly describe it as a phobia, I just find it annoying. I always make my hubby or my daughter answer it when it rings. If I'm home alone, I do answer it myself, but not because I want to.

I almost never call anybody except my family. Again, if calls need to be made, I try to make hubby do it if at all possible.

If somebody calls me just to chat I grit my teeth and bear it, but I'd much rather just email.

I HATE the phone. It annoys my employer to no end that I won't answer the phone, but hey, I've only just gotten comfortable with talking to my own MOTHER on the phone. :lmao: I despise making calls and will not unless there's no other alternative. And forget answering the phone. :scared:
