Do you have sliding glass doors?

I would love those but we figured out I cant have french doors in there unless they swing out. Its just a small dining room.

My DH's aunt recently was talking to us about what she could do with her sliding doors. She has the verticals and HATES them. She will not consider drapes because they "are work". :confused3 Hers looks like 3 floor to ceiling windows, but only the center one slides (they aren't very wide). I wondered about those enclosed miniblinds but then realized that it wouldn't work on the slider. Not sure what she wants to do............but then again, she will NOT be easy to please! :earseek:

We are fortunate that there is no one behind us to look in, so we don't have anything covering them most of the time. I do have mesh roll up shades to cut the sun glare, with a valance across the top to hide them when they are up. My kids don't like to sleep there with nothing on the windows when they have sleepovers, so they pull down the shades and feel better.

A decorator that I used suggested that I buy the cellular shades that "push" up and then they are invisible. They kind of disappear into the top of the window when you want them up, and then they just pull down when you want privacy. There is no hardware (cords, chains, etc.) I don't remember the name of them, but you can find them on Smith and Noble's website. It will probably run you about $250.

They make french doors which do swing out. The ones on our house swing out. Might be a special order, but they do make them.

For our old house, we looked at getting a single swing out door, with a fixed, side panel glass.

Also, your local door/window shops could make you whatever you'd like.

I had shutters installed on all my windows and sliding doors. It took me several months to save up for them so I lived with sheets for a while. That was twenty years ago they still look great and I just vacuum them when needed. They fold back out of the way when the doors are used.

I was going to suggest that you frost your glass. That would give some privacy but would still let in light. However, I guess that wouldn't help with the insulating problem :confused3

I prefer the "nothing on windows and doors" look, however that isn't practical in a development, I am having the worst time doing the window treatments at our house. Good luck with whatever you decide!

You can get a Transverse Rod
(JCPENNEY sells them) and put drapes on them.

We are going to put Roman Shades on our doors in our kitchen, one for each door. I would have loved to have gotten the shades inside the glass on our Pella door but DH said it would be a lot more for the door than what the contractor allotted us.

I don't have anything on them right now. My parents would be the only ones looking into my kitchen right so it I am in no rush to put them on yet. Plus I still don't have any window treatments on the other windows. :wave2: I am sure my neighbors don't mind.

We have a slider in our walkout basement but don't have anything on it. We just have woods behind us and we don't spend a lot of time down there anyway. Someday I'd like to do something with it though.

We've got sliding doors but they have the internal blinds between the panes. To be honest, in the 11 years we've lived in the house, we've never adjusted them except setting them where we like it when we first moved in. We keep them open all the time.
