Last week I did a poll, and was surprised that more people voted that they prefer traditional hymns to Praise and Worship (with a large number also voting for both).
So with so many people saying the like the hymns, I was wondering if you had one favorite hymn (or two or three if you like).

One of my all-time favorites is ONWARD CHRISTIAN SOLDIERS.
I also love AT CALVARY and THE OLD RUGGED CROSS.

Anybody else have a favorite traditional hymn?

Eagles Wings. LOVE that one.

"And he will raise you up on eagle's wings...
Bear you on the breath of God...
Make you to shine like the sun...
And hold you in the palm of his hand"

My top three favorites:

1. Be Thou My Vision
2. To God Be the Glory
3. “606” (Praise God From Whom All Blessings Flow; The Mennonite Hymnal, 1969)

I come to the garden alone
While the dew is still on the roses
And the voice I hear, falling on my ear
The Son of God discloses

And He walks with me
And He talks with me
And He tells me I am His own
And the joy we share as we tarry there
None other has ever known

He speaks and the sound of His voice
Is so sweet the birds hush their singing
And the melody that He gave to me
Within my heart is ringing

And He walks with me
And He talks with me
And He tells me I am His own
And the joy we share as we tarry there
None other has ever known

I'd stay in the garden with Him
'Tho the night around me be falling
But He bids me go; through the voice of woe
His voice to me is calling

And He walks with me
And He talks with me
And He tells me I am His own
And the joy we share as we tarry there
None other has ever known

1. Be Thou My Vision
2. Built on the Rock
3. From Heaven Above

Here is my favorite:

All creatures of our God and King
Lift up your voice and with us sing
O praise Him, alleluia
Thou burning sun with golden beam
Thou silver moon with softer gleam
O praise Him, O praise Him
Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia

Thou rushing wind that art so strong
Ye clouds that sail in heav'n along
O praise Him, alleluia
Thou rising moon in praise rejoice
Ye lights of evening find a voice
O praise Him, O praise Him
Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia

Let all things their Creator bless
And worship Him in humbleness
O praise Him, alleluia
Praise, praise the Father, praise the Son
And praise the Spirit, Three in One
O praise Him, O praise Him
Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia

Alleluia!

Got to run...heading to church! :)

"What a Friend We Have in Jesus" has always been a favorite of mine.

The Doxology is my all-time favorite. Is it a real hymn? I don't even know. But, everytime I/we sing it I get a little lump in my throat. It really touches me.

Here I Am

By the way, if you like traditional hymns you have to listen to Alan Jackson's Precious Memories CD. It is full of traditional hymns and they are all sung beautifully without a lot of production. I am obsessed with this CD.

"Be Not Afraid." We sang it all the time when I was a kid, and I just like it.

Favorite kid song is the Butterfly song. "If I were a kangaroo, you know I'd hop right up to you." Sang it all the time with the kids. :)

Wow - there are some awesome hymns listed here - I grew up singing many of these pieces with my Mom and Grandma, in my little country Methodist church.

Unfortunately the church we currently attend seems to be stuck in a hymn rut, if ya know what I mean....

Amazing Grace
The old Rugged Cross
To God be the Glory
It is well with my Soul
One Day
Great is Thy Faithfulness

Here I Am - always makes me cry
Borning Cry - sing that at every baptism, cry through the whole thing
Amazing Grace - must sing all verses for big tears!

Wow---I like the weeping ones, don't I?? :thumbsup2
We sing Eagles Wings after the benediction---that's a great one, too.

I DO! My apologies to ther person who listed "Here I Am, Lord" but I am so sick of that song! Every single week! "Here I am, Lord..." I'll bet the organist can play it in her sleep. Mix it up a bit, people!

...'Course, I don't want to be in charge of music. If we have to sing, "Here I Am, Lord" every week, so be it.
