That you didnt have until later in life ? and how did you find out ?

heights , they were scary when I was young but now Im unnaturally terrified , now I dont mind if Im moving but being dangled in air, not for this boy. I was doing the ride on top of the stratosphere in Vegas, and I was like so scared I just didnt move and closed my eyes so hard until it was over. And to make matters worse it was experienced by another diser, LOL

I love rollercoasters and many other thrill rides, but could never do this one. Never! Good old anti-anxiety meds got rid of most phobias, but there are many things I still wouldn't do. Another would be those caves that have areas you have to squeeze through that are just about as big as you are. Nope. I used to have fears of driving near water, large ships - in or out of water - even photos. A pic. of a ship sinking would make me squirm. There are a few others that don't bother me as much any more - kind of the reverse of your actual question, I guess! :upsidedow

ladybugs (no idea how this phobia came to be)

being stuck in an mri (I’ve come to realize I don’t mind small spaces, just scared of getting stuck in a small space)

Small mammals ( rats, mice, opossums, raccoons, skunks, muskrats, bats- things like that). Hate 'em!

I’ve always been scared of heights and elevators but I think it’s gotten worse as I’ve aged. I’m the 40 year old that cried on Tower on Terror. I dont Know why I thought it wouldn’t be so bad to combine two ofmy worst fears...

As an adult I developed a fear of flying. I used to love it as a kid. Probably as an adult I’m more aware of what could happen, however unlikely. I also dont like the lack of control.

Lightning.

It never bothered me until an incident a few years ago. As I was getting out of the car there was this extremely loud boom and a blinding white light. We have no idea exactly what was hit, but it was something fairly close to us.

It was terrifying. Didn’t even phase my husband.

He gets to chuckle now as lightning sends me running away to cower in fear in the closest “safe” zone possible.

I'm claustrophobic. I'm not sure when or why it started. It's been sometime over the past 4-5 years. When my children were little, I was able to wander through all of those caves on Tom Sawyer Island in WDW without a second thought. Now, even thinking about it raises my heart rate. I can't do spiral staircases because they feel too closed in. (Which my kids all find hilarious, btw)

Driving.

Nope. Nope. Nope!

I don't even make a good passenger most of the time.

And one of the worst parts of a driving experience? Parking. It is something about being surrounded on all sides by cars. I hate when we park way out where nobody else is and before we get back 20 minutes later, there are still tons of open spaces, but two people have chosen to park on either side of us! Argh!

I prefer to walk or take public transportation. Of course that isn't always possible, and I am definitely a bit better if my husband drives, but I get nervous just thinking about it. I have been in cars when they have been involved in accidents, one of which happened when I was quite young and my aunt saved me from going through the windshield. (This was before carseats and seatbelts and she shoved me down under the dash when she saw what was about to happen.) I have no idea if that had anything to do with how I feel now or not. Despite taking driver training and doing practice driving, when the time came to get my licence, I was just never "brave" enough to do it. Trust me. You wouldn't want me on the roadways anyway.

Heights.

Dog fights. I was afraid of dogs as a child. My parents got a dog and I gradually lost my fear, until he was attacked as I walked him. From then on to this day, two dogs together scare me.

Not that I found out later in life. I have a fear of falling (not heights, there's a difference). I have had it as long as I can remember. My parents tell the story of how I fell approximately 10 feet as a toddler and broke my finger. I don't remember the incident at all, but I've always wondered if it was the catalyst.

Flying. As a kid & young adult it never bothered me, but now I hate it. I do it but get really freaked out if the flights is anything short of perfect. Of cours, last few times I flew it was through thunderstorms so I was on edge the whole time. Vowed never to fly again but now plan to fly in Nov again. So we’ll see!

Flying - when I was a kid, I was on a plane every single year (divorced parents living 1000 miles apart) and I loved it. Turbulence was fun then! Now I'm a white-knuckle flyer on a good day and turbulence scares the daylights out of me.

Driving - I mean, when I drive (I'm fine if someone else does). I never had an issue the first few years. I drove my friends to and from school, we took trips all over the place and I drove, everything was fine. I feel like it's become a free-for-all now and there is NO courtesy whatsoever. People tailgate (when you're already going 10 over the limit) and run stop signs; I've been run off the road, had someone come after me in a parking lot (I was giving a wide berth to an obviously nervous student driver in front of me and the guy behind me, one of our local firefighters, didn't like it), had 3 accidents that were maliciously caused by other drivers (long story)...it's gotten to the point where I panic simply by thinking about getting behind the wheel.
