I got a Nano yesterday, and went to Target to get the pink armband today. I already have a lot of music downloaded to it, and I absolutely love it! I like having all my music in one place; no carrying around and changing CDs. Plus, with the armband, I can listen while cleaning house. My stereo is in our living room, and I can't hear it when I am in other parts of the house.

I have a blue iPod mini. I want the video one... :teeth:

So would the 79% of you who have one answer a question for the 21% who don't. When and where do you use your Ipod? I honestly can't think of anywhere I would use the thing where I don't already have access to music.

mostly I listen to it while working out, and dh uses it for planerides. however, for christmas we got a bose docking station so now we listen to it in place of our cd player in our house. Its awesome...can't say enough about it (we have a mini). I especially love that you can designate playlists...we did a christmas music playlist for christmas day. basically loaded all of our christmas cds (we have many) and downloaded one or 2 songs we were missing onto the ipod and had around 6 hours of music that never needed changing

My Ipod is a 20 GB, 4th Gen model. My aunt and uncle bought each other Ipods, respectively the nano and the video. They both were surprised, while I was a bit envious since I bought mine beforehand. I had no idea Apple would come out with 30 GB for the same price as my 20 GB, and hold video files to boot.

Speaking of which, shouldn't I be feeding my Ipod with some music from the Itunes store, and rip some tracks from my Bond CDs?

listening while walking/working out is the #1 use of mine
I guess this explains why I don't have one. If I'm on a plane, which isn't that often, I'm with my family and wouldn't be putting on headphones.

In the car by myself, if I listen to anything it is generally news or talk radio or occasionally music which is just fine on the radio. Occasionally, I borrow books on tape from the library and listen to those. If I'm out with my family, we either talk (imagine that) or listen to some favorite CDs. And I know newer cars come with MP3 CD players so next time around, we'll be able to start burning 10-hour discs and just keep 2 or 3 of those in the car.

I work out at home and I've got a TV, VCR and DVD player in front of my treadmill. I much prefer to watch a movie while I exercise rather than listening to music.

So I think I'll be staying in the no Ipod group for the foreseeable future.

We have one of the white 20GB photo iPods....and use it the following ways:

- I use the iPod almost exclusively in the car....I have about an hour commute each way to work, and have discovered the joy of listening to books while on my journey :goodvibes Since my car does not have a tape or CD player, the iPod works great as a substitute for these!

- My DH uses it mostly at home, playing it over the stereo or taking the dog for walks...he's more of the music listener than books though

- The last, and one of the most exciting features we use our iPod for is to clear the camera card off when we're on vacation! I used to drag my laptop with me on vacation just so I could clear the camera cards (yes, I know you can buy more cards...and we already own two 256MB ones, but seriously, you have no idea how many pictures I take! :teeth: I would be spending a fortune on cards!). Plus, I seem to have anxiety about not having enough space, and I would just be nervous on long vacations without having SOME method of clearing off those cards....the iPod is a great alternative!

I'm Apple's Marketing Department's dream. I have a 3rd generation 15 GB, a 4th generation 20 GB and the new 4GB Nano.

How do I use mine:
1) work - Muzak is pumped through the speakers and every four hours it's a different station and needless to say a lot of people like to pick classic rock, and I'd rather not listen to that.
2) working out
3) computer back up. Oh that's right, all those files, photos, documents, music, you name it when I am getting ready to reformat I put on my disk mode and have all my files backed up several times.
4) iDog - my new Christmas surprise needs to be "fed" music, lol, so I play music through him and listen to it off the speaker.

To whomever said Best Buy said they get a lot of returns on iPods, well, most of them are built flawlessly. I was not an Apple owner before my 3rd generation but I took the iPod out of the box plugged it in and it's been working ever since, and the other two were just the same. If I ever encountered a problem I checked out the support website on Apple and figured out what others had done to resolve an issue. FYI - Apple has a ton of discounts on their products via their website and once you spend $50 everything ships free and lately all iPods have included free engraving.

I have an Ipod Mini, DS has the 30G Ipod photo, DD1 just got the Nano for Christmas. I offered to trade my mini for her nano, but she declined. Kids, now a days!

You didn't give an option for another brand or type of MP3 player! I don't have an Ipod, but I listen to MP3s on my PDA. I also bought a new SD memory card for my PDA today, and it actually came with a free rudimentary MP3 player. (It was $60 at Target, for a 512K card, MP3 player, and earphones.)

I use mine
1) Walking - I walk everyday, multiple times a day, it makes the same boring walk go a lot quicker :sunny:
2) Travelling - I travel alone a lot, especially on planes and trains. I actually use CD's in the car (burned from my computer), I guess I should get up to date and get a wireless thing to save me burning all those CD's :rotfl:
3) Computer back up, and moving files between computers
4) Sometimes I listen to it at night, so I don't wake other people by playing music externally.

I have a blue mini. I got it for my birthday in August, and as soon as I got it they discontinued it in favor of the nano. The mini works fine, and I'll use it for a couple of years and then get some kind of video compatible model.

I use it in the airport, on planes, on public transportation and sometimes I'll take it to work.

I got my daughter a pink Mini and it got broken within hours on Christmas. Luckily the store I got it from took it back, after 2 trips there because I couldnt find the reciept the first go around. So they gave me back my money on the 6gb mini. Well no one in my town had them including the original store I got it from. So we called the Apple store that is about 30 minutes from my house. It took almost 2 hours to get there in traffic but we were able to get the 30 gb in black. I didnt know it at the time but that is actually a video Ipod so she really got an upgrade. I dont know diddly about putting videos on it though.

One of the reason I went with an Ipod nano(as opposed to other mp3 players) was because of all the accessories that are available for it.

I had to laugh. Yep...I got it in July. So I guess it's "old" now!

I have the 20 GB with photos and I love it. I take loads of photos and it's great for that, but I also use it for teaching. I have loads of children's music that I use in my kindergarten class. No more fumbling through CD's to find the song I need, I find it on the iPod and play it through the tuner. Plus thousands of personal songs. It's the best thing since TiVO! DH is trying to sell his mini to get the newest video iPod.

In one of my college classes we were having a discussion about IPods. It was in my seminar on peer-tutoring and I think we got to the discussion by talking about class (as in social class). We came to the realization that at least on our University of Wisconsin-Madison campus, an IPod is a symbol of class status. Everybody that is fairly well off has an IPod--it really seems like most people on campus can be seen with little white buds coming out of their ears inbetween classes.

I think that this is true--IPods are for people that have enough money to drop $200-$400 to entertain them on-the-go and be lighter and less bulky than a cd player and cds. I do not own one--I cannot afford it. I work two jobs and pay my way through college. I barely have the $475 to cover my rent each month, let alone buy something to play the same songs my cd player plays.

Yes, I plan on getting an Ipod or mp3 player someday...but not until I'm richer.

I got a 60 gig video iPod for Christmas. Have a whole photo library on there, a bunch of music videos, at least 500 songs, and still have over 53 gigs left. The thing is just awesome. Plug it in and it works. Apple has great discussion forums to get any questions answered that come up.

I don't have one- I have my CD player for music in the car, I use the computer for music at home, the laptop for music at work, so I'm pretty much covered!

My DH just gave me an iPod video for Christmas. I would have been content with a Nano or a shuffle, now I'm psyched that I'll be downloading Podcasts to watch on my dinner breaks at work.

I have no more excuses-the reason I wanted the iPod was so that I wouldn't be bored to death while walking. The walking begins in the morning.
