They work so flawlessly with itunes (my husband has spent hours and hours trying to convince my mother's "other brand" MP3 player to play nice with her computer) that I don't think they are overpriced or overrated. I'm willing to pay for something that works so well as my time is very precious nowadays.
Amen to that. My DH got me an MP3 player last Christmas with a built-in radio transmitter so I could listen to anything through my radio that was on my player. Very cool. Except....it was next to impossible to get my downloaded songs to go into a format that the MP3 player would accept.
So, this year Santa brought me the iPod video. It is sooooo much easier and that means that there is a much greater probability that I will actually use it. DH got last year's MP3 player since he could figure it out.
I love this thing. I've been downloading video podcasts from iTunes, and I have transferred my CDs to my ipod. The sound quality is incredible. Yo Yo Ma never sounded so good.

I have wanted one for so long and DW gave me one yesterday. Unfortunately, I don't have the appropriate version of Windows, so until I can get off of Windows98SE, my Ipod will be a sparkling little gem on the coffee table.
We love them. As for where we use them that we don't already have music, WDW is the first place that comes to mind. Then there is walking, the beach, when riding in the car and 3 people wanting to listen to 3 different kinds of music.
