Do you have a steam washing machine?

I bought a new LG front loader and matching dryer a couple of months ago. The washer has the "steam function" and so does the dryer. I can't say that it's really something that I wanted, but all of the larger capacity machines had that feature. I do like the steam on the dryer, since it's great for getting wrinkles out of things that sat in the dryer too long.

But, I'm scared to try the steam function on the washing machine. I have always washed the majority of our clothes in cold water, because I'm afraid of them shrinking. Will the steam function cause 100% cotton clothes to shrink any?

The salesperson told me that the clothes wouldn't shrink...but I know that most salespeople tell us what we want to hear. ;) What's your experience? Thanks.

I do have a steam washer but I've never felt the need to use the steam on clothing. :confused3 I do use the steam function for every load of towels and bedding and that's combined with the sanitize setting so the water is extremely hot. I've never had any problem with shrinkage for any of my towels or bedding.

I use the steam/sanitize cycle on DH's gym clothes. :crazy2: They were not really getting "fresh" without it. He hasn't complained about the t-shirts shrinking, and they are all 100% cotton.

I also use the steam on the towels... not every time, because the cycle is so much longer, but maybe once a month or so. And I steamed the heck out of the bedding after DD's episode of stomach flu!
