I know I can't be the only one (I hope), but I have 2 weird irrational fears. One is when ordering food....I am semi picky eater and I'm always afraid to order food and to make a special request (like no lettuce, or no sprouts....) My DS5 doesn't like pickles and we were at Burger King the other day and he told me to order with no pickles and I just couldn't do it, I told him I'd take them off of his burger myself....I don't know why I do that, because I know most people order what they want, but I just get nervous like the 16 year old behind the counter is going to lash out at me or something. My other fear stems from high school. A classmate was running with her car keys in her hand and slipped on some ice and the keys went through her hand. To this day I will not hold my car keys in my hand in the winter, they stay in my pocket until I get to my car:rolleyes:

So will anybody else admit to a silly fear they have...make me feel less crazy at least

I have a fear of heights but not like being on a ladder or balcony, I cannot stand tall buildings with large windows.

If I even get close to the windows I freak out. I know they won't fall out, well I hope so but if there is no balcony or barrier I cannot even get near them. Just the idea of looking out, even while I am typing this gives my the willies.

I don't like sky lifts at all. We went to the Bronx zoo over the summer and they have this sky ride, my kids wanted to go, so I did. I swear I almost passed out from fear-lol.

I'm ok with heights as long as I have a floor I can see around me, tall buildings don't bother me at all. Not a big fan of elevators either, even though they have a floor.

Maybe it's the whole being suspended by a cord thing that really bothers me now that I think about it. I'm just scared that the sky ride will just pop off or the elevator cord will snap or something. But then on the other hand I love to ride the Tower of Terror.....bawhahaha I don't know, I guess I just have issues.

So to answer your question yes I do have an irrational fear. ;)

I have a fear of rejection and yet I also have a fear of commitment

Fear of heights is my big one. DH convinced me to get on the BIG ferris wheel at California Adventure while on vacation 2 weeks ago. About 10 seconds into the ride, I froze and started crying. I was so scared, I couldn't even turn my head to look at him. I just stared at the floor. He tried to move across the car to sit next to me and I freaked out. I didn't want ANY movement inside the car until we could get out. We weren't even in one of the swinging cars, but in a stationary car. It was just too much for me. I didn't realize how much until it was too late. I was so freaked out that later I chickened out on Soaring Over California - the one ride I was SO excited to ride. I tried twice, but both times I bolted out the door before it started. :(

I have a fear of traveling outside the United States. I can travel to Canada or Mexico if it's within running distance (literally) of the border, but I don't know if I'll ever be able to travel abroad. This is very weird because my parents are world travelers and have been EVERYWHERE! I prefer to keep my feet on the U.S. soil. It's been this way for years, long even before 9/11. I wish I wouldn't have a fear of traveling abroad because I feel like I'm missing out on so much. But I knew if I were in another country I'd have a panic attack. To make up for it though, I have traveled to over half the states.

Elevators (panic CITY!), snowplows (was almost hit by one back in grade school, and driving. My hubby does pretty much ALL the driving. I would only do it if it were an emergency. I had a bad accident about 7 years ago and have never been the same...

Dolls--except for Barbies--and especially ventriloquist's dummies:scared:!!! You can't tell me they don't come alive at night and do evil things...

Walking over bridges....If I take ds to visit dh at work in the city, I wont walk to the office from the train station, I pay a cab to take me the 4 blocks. When we head back to the train, dh refuses to pay for a cab. So I practicaly run over the bridge while dh and ds take their time and look down >shudder< at the water.
Any sort of outdoor height bothers me too, even if there are guard rails. Think places like Niagara Falls, Stone Mountain, etc. I rode the lift to the top of Stone Mtn, but I refused to leave the little building. DH and my friend went wandering around down by the guard rail, while I stayed back and tried to keep my knees from buckling out from under me.

Same thing happened to me. I went on a roller coaster at a small amusement park last year with DD. It was only about five stories tall, and even though I hate heights, I thought I'd be a real wimp not to get on it with a seven-year-old. As soon as that thing started moving, I realized what a bad idea it was. I moved into the corner of the seat and kept my eyes closed until it was over. It lasted forever! There is no way I could handle that ferris wheel at California Adventure. Just looking at the pictures scares me!

I am deeply terrified of spiders and driving over big bridges.

Heights, elephants, and not being able to see my feet in water.

I fear no one responding to a thread I post or killing a thread

My friend's mom has the same fear too ... When we go out to eat at a restaurant, we're not allowed to complain or send food back because she's afraid that the wait staff or chef will get angry and spit in our food ... or other things.

My fears are spiders and electric shocks in the winter -- I especially get big shocks from my car. I'll use my foot, my purse or get someone else to close my door :p

Here's one that I'm sure you never heard of. I am scared to death of the old test plattern on TV. I am so glad that most stations run 24/7 now or don't use that old scary thing!

BWVDenise I have the "not seeing my feet in water" one as well. It's why I don't swim in the ocean in New Jersey but loved swimming in the ocean in Bermuda. When I was about 6 a crab bit my toe and that was the end of that. If I can't see what's down there forget it. I'm also afraid of my car going off a bridge into the water. For that reason I have never owned a car with electric windows. If I can't roll the window down I don't want the car. My DH and sons don't appreciate that one much.

Oooh, I have one nobody's mentioned yet, so I must be really weird... How about going to the bathroom in the dark? I just cannot do it. I HAVE to turn the light on and look in the toilet before I "go." I KNOW there's nothing "down there" that's gonna bite my butt....but I still have to SEE first!!!

I don't know WHAT I would do if I went blind! Yikes!! Probably I'd have to "pee in a bucket" and then empty it into the toilet:(

Chattyaholic, mine is really close, I hate spiders and I fear that a black widow spider is under the toilet seat and when I sit down it's going to bite me :scared1: :faint: :scared:

i know this isn't really funny...but you got me to chuckling with that one...lol

i have the same fear of my car going over the edge of a bridge into water. but i still own a car with electric windows...

i am incredibly afraid of drowning. i can't put my face into water. when i wash my face, i use a washcloth to rinse it off. swimming...can't stand to be splashed. i can get my hair wet...just not my face. and when i'm watching tv and someone's under water...i hold my breath until they come out...
