Do you use it?

I am very tempted to get one. With our temperatures being warmer than average, I hate the thought of turning on the oven. My family is going to riot if I make pasta for dinner one more time.

Do you have/use a Fry Daddy? How often do you use it? How often do you need to change the oil in it? What kind of oil do YOU use? What are your thoughts on it?

We have one and maybe use it weekly. It depends on what we are cooking on what pil we use.

No way in heck I'd want to be frying food, particularly when it's so hot outside. What about a grill, like a George Foreman? I have a DeLonghi and it's easy and a lot healthier than frying.

Second this. My butcher friend just recommended the TFal Optigrill to me. Says it does an excellent job. The other appliance I often use in the summertime is our toaster oven. It has a convection feature on it. My mother used to use an electric frying pan in the summer, but I haven't seen one for years.

I have a small one that I used a couple of times to make things like fried jalapeños and palak chaat. I think I used vegetable oil in it. I haven't used it in a couple of years because it's just as easy to fry things in a pan, and that saves me the trouble of pulling out the Fry Daddy. Plus, I can cook larger amounts with less oil on the stove.

I've used my crock pot and roaster outside when the weather was too hot to cook inside (or when I was pregnant and couldn't stomach the smell of cooking food).

I have a fry baby, I got it for my wedding back in 98, and broke it out of the box last month to make toasted ravioli for my daughter's 8th grade grad party. It worked great, I used vegetable oil and didn't keep it, since I don't use it that often. It uses maybe 3 cups total, but you don't need the whole amount of oil.

My parents had one in the 80's, I didn't know they still made them.

I remember it giving off a lot of heat so if that's what you're trying to avoid, it might not be the best option. We use our crock pot and our George Foreman or BBQ outside.

I don't know if they still make them, mine was gotten awhile ago, but it didn't give off a lot of heat. It's warm standing right there, but otherwise it was fine.

we have one of those roto-fryers that works great. The basket is tilted and rotates so you don't need as much oil and the food doesn't sit in the oil. It has a lid so no oil splattering and its relatively easy to clean (there's a hose to pour out the oil, a filter and container to store the oil). It doesn't throw off any more heat than my crock pot.

We don't use it a lot because it takes up too much counter space but in the past I've had smaller ones that were used regularly.

I'm sure fryer technology has come a long way. :) This this was gigantic, I think it took 2 bottles of oil to fill.

Haven't used it in years. DW prefers to fry in a pan anyway. When we first got it we used it a couple times a week and change the oil every 5 uses. Fried food is so bad for you anyway, just as well not use the fryer.
We use the gas grill a lot year round, but especially on days like today when it was over 100.

I had one that I used outside. It really did give off a lot of heat. Usually I deep fry things in a cast iron cocotte.

Wow...I haven't had a fry daddy, baby or any of those since the 80s.
I use the oven. It really doesn't make my house warmer except right in front of the oven..............and we are hot for many months!

I had one a while ago, the only thing I ever made in it was french fries and chicken nuggets. I gave it to Goodwill when I realized that I hardly ever used it anymore.

Now, as to the cooking when it's hot out. I never use the oven when it's hot out. I use the grill outside a lot. I also use my electric skillet a lot, the george foreman grill and the crock pot. If you think the crock pot/electric skillet are heating up the house too much (I never do, but you might), try using them on the deck or porch. My MIL also uses her Nesco Roaster out on the table in her screen porch.

It gets too hot in here for the oven in the summer.

I use my crockpot, electric skillet, and tabletop oven (not toaster oven), outside gas grill and the oil-less propane fryer (good for whole chickens/turkeys. haven't tried anything else in it)

Ditto. We use ours once a week or so. I use canola oil, and mostly use it for tater tots or homemade chicken nuggets

I have one and we use it a few times a month. I use vegetable oil and change it about every 4 to 6 weeks depending on how often I use it.

I have one and love it. I got the larger one, and find the extra basket size is perfect. It's nice to make homemade fish and chips and other goodies. I use it a few times a month. Swap out the oil about once a month (generally peanut oil is what I use).
