Do you have a "favorite stateroom?"

I've seen some folks referring to a certain room number as their "favorite." I can't understand why, for the life of me! Aren't the rooms all the same within categories? Can someone enlighten me? Why is your favorite room your favorite? :)

Three things that make a good stateroom, to me:

Location,
Location, and
Location

This can manifest it self in a number of ways:

Ship movement: some people prefer the back because they supposedly feel the rocking of the ship less. Others the front so they hear the engine less.

Hallway noise: The extreme ends of a hallway will have less due to the fact that you will have less people traverseing the halls en route to their staterooms

Amenities: Some people like to be near the restraunts, or far from the night clubs, etc.

Finally, ANY room on board is great due to the fact you're on board.

All staterooms are definitely NOT created equal.
5650 is my favorite for a number of reasons:
It is as far aft as possible, which means less hallway traffic.
It has a solid metal verandah that is more recessed due to the shape of the ship and larger than the norm.
It only has a neighbor on one side, which means one less chance at a noisy neighbor and one less chance of having a chainsmoker on the verandah next door.
It has no neighbors across the hall (again, less chance of hallways noise).
You can occasionally hear the hum of the engine, which lulls me to sleep.
When you back in to Castaway Cay (which you almost always do), you have the ocean/island view rather than the dock.
It has my favorite picture above the bed.

There are also special things that happen in staterooms. Not on our Disney cruise, but there is a room at a local Radisson that will always be ours because we spent a special weekend there. You probably don't want to know why rooms are "special" (but if you check ages of children and past cruise dates, you may be able to figure out a possible reason).

A few rooms on DCL are "special" - secret porthole rooms where you get a blocked view of the outside for an inside price. Navigators Verandas - which gives you a veranda for a few hundred less. There aren't too many of these rooms, which can make them special.

We've only taken one cruise, and I asked our TA to change our room but nothing else was available. As it worked out, we will be booking deck 6 by the aft elevators again - turned out to be wonderfully convienient to restaurants and kids clubs.

I liek any room on Decks 5 and 6 that is near the forward or Mid Ship Elevators. Well Cat 5 or 6 too not inside. And not across from laundry. Or it can't be connecting that eliminates the door to your "neighbors".

Really?!

Well, I guess because when I am in my stateroom (5622) - first stateroom on the left after the AFT elevators. I have easy access to the stairs and elevators. It's only one floor down to AP where we have our safety drill seated at the tables rather than standing outside on the deck. It's also just four floors below the Topsiders Buffet and 24/7 coffee bar and just one or two down from AP and Parrot Cay.

Plus there is no neighbor on my left side and if you are allergic to smoke, that's a big advantage!

It's also right across the hall from the service elevator so we get our luggage quickly delivered and taken, and room service is faster!

That's why it's our favorite!!!!

We don't have a favorite room, but like Jim said it is all about location for us. That's why we love the Navigator verandas. We love the location and we love the look and feel of the veranda.

Since there are only 8 of them on each deck it feels like the same room each time.

I don't have a favorite, but some of locations that the others prefer are not where I like to end up at.

It just goes to show, everyone has different ideas of what the perfect room is.

Right now, I'd rather be anywhere on either ship than sitting here looking at more snow falling. :(

We will be cruising for the first time next February, so all of this is news to me. Thanks for sharing! :) Some of your reasons for preferring your stateroom are pretty neat (crisi ;-) ).

I'm also surprised to hear that smoke on an adjoining veranda might be a problem. Is it a problem on at sea days too? I thought the movement of the ship would blow the smoke away?

We were on deck 7, so it was a quick walk up to decks 9 & 10 for breakfast, drink station, pools, food, etc. and it was a quick walk down to the Restaurants for dinner and entertainment. We very rarely used the elevators...only when we came back from an excursion, even then, they were so crowded, we ended up walking back up to our deck most of the time.

Luckily, we didn't encounter smokers on either side of us, and yes the smoke will disapate while at sea, BUT if you have a chainsmoker near you, you will get smoke on your verandah...hopefully if you do get a smoker next to you, they will be considerate.

On all 4 of our cruise, we've had a cabin on deck 5 aft. It's our favorite part of the ship and we'll always book back here. We always seem to end up with the same cabins or at least ones right next door to the one we were in on previous cruises.

I really enjoyed being aft near the aft elevators we were on deck 2 and 7 and loved having inside fire drill, aft elevators are very convienent to buffets pools dinner etc... deck 7 was great walk up to eat or down a few ...

I htink it alldepends what you are looking for....

First cruise-5013...Great location and the room has the sideways set up

Second cruise- 5522...secret porthole(free view), great location, adn a view of CC when we backed in.

Next cruise-6528...Only 1 verandah neighbor and hopefully a view of CC if we back in. I would think its a pretty good location too.
