I grew up praying to St. Ann. The Basilica in Scranton was only a Monastery then and every year there is an annual Novena prior to her feast day. She is the Grandmother of Jesus, and has been very important in my families' lives.

My DH's Aunt introduced us to St. Padre Pio, back before he was a Saint. She has believed in him for most of her life and she has some wonderful stories to tell. When her oldest son wanted to go to medical school, he took the MCATs and had a score that got him into Georgetown, but not into Michigan, where he really wanted to go. He prayed and prayed to Padre Pio for help. When he went to take them for a second time, a man walked up to him and started talking to him. He told this man how much he wanted to go to Michigan and that he'd previously taken this test. The man assured him that he'd do much better this time and he'd make it into Michigan. Then, the man walked away. After the man left, he turned to the student sitting next to him and asked him who the man was that he was talking to since he'd never seen him before. The kids next to him asked what he was talking about. No one was talking to him. He argued with the student but others confirmed that there was no one there. When he got his scores, he had gone up astronomically and made it into Michigan. He and his mother attibute this as Padre Pio's intervention.

They also believe that before my DH's Aunt's mother died, she was visited by Padre Pio. He came to her bedside and told her that everyone would be ok when she was gone and that he'd be coming back for her in the near future.

Taking this a step further, I have to believe in the powers that this stigmata'd man had for making miracles occur. When my DGM was dying, she had the Catholic TV station on in her room. We noticed that the story was about Padre Pio's life. Later that day, a priest came into see her to give her Last Rites. He shared with each of us a Matrix medal and told us how Padre Pio fit into the Matrix. Finally, if you believe in things happening in threes, my DH's aunt came to see my DGM. She brought a Padre Pio prayer card with her. We know that he was watching out for my DGM that night and was there to escort her Home.

So, do you have a favorite Saint who has touched your life in a special way?

St Jude, the saint of the impossible. I feel my devotion to him was instrumental in getting my first date with Marie, after trying relentlessly for 11 months, LOL, and ultimately marrying her, also another 'impossible' task. :) And here almost 32 years later still.

Very nice, RUDisney.

My favorite saint is Saint Francis - Patron Saint of Animals.

My grandmother had a special relationship with St. Jude. She kept a small statue of him on her dresser, and she often prayed for his intervention. When she was mad at him, she'd stick him in the drawer (this made me LOL!). When my grandmother passed away suddenly last June, the only thing I wanted was that statue. It sits in my living room now, and I treasure it. So St. Jude is special to me.

I wasn't really raised to pray to saints for intervention. so I don't do it often. One that always helps me though is St. Anthony. whenever I've lost something, I pray to St. Anthony. He has never failed me.

I talk to St. Joseph ALOT... I figure he had to be one hec of a man to deal with being the foster/step/earthly father to Jesus Christ.

I wish the lives of the Saints were taught at CCD.. have had to do it on my own with the kids.. and I am afraid I have not done a good job. It seems the Nuns dealt with the lives of the Saints daily when we were in grade school.

While I am not Catholic, nor was I raised to pray to saints, I do occasionaly now. My patron Saint is Patrick of Ireland. I'm part Irish and I was born a day before his feast day :) Also, I pray to my maternal grandfather who died in 1998. I know that he is in Heaven and that he's looking out for me.

I like St. Jude because the St. Jude children's research hospital in Memphis is such a great place.:D

St. Lucy-the patron saint of the blind. My brother was born blind, so I always felt like she was watching over him.

RUDisney, I live less than 5 minutes from the National Shrine to Padre Pio. It's a beautiful, breathtaking place.

My mother has always prayed to St Jude. My MIL is always praying to St. Anthony. I really do not pray to anyone but God, unles doing the rosary. I figure they are all listening anyway ;)

My favorite saint is St Joesph. My DH and I tried for quite a few years to become pregnant. I had to go through many, many medical procedures...with no luck.:(

My DH payed a novena to St Joesph, and that month I was preganant! :teeth:

Our son's middle name is Joseph in honor of St Joesph!

I have always found strength in learning about the lives of the saints, It's nice to know that others have been able to keep their faith even when faced by terrible adversity. The saints are great role models. It's comforting to know there are so many "prayer partners" in heaven just waiting for you to ask them to pray/interceed for you.

I've had quite a few patron saints over the years, but after Kayla died, I was drawn to the stain glass of St. Michael the Archangel. We had prayed to him when she started having nightmares. After I placed a picture of him in her room and we prayed to him, they stopped.

I named our youngest son Michael in his honor. Our oldest son, Christopher, was named after St. Christopher.

I'm not Catholic either, but I have a St. Jude charm -- I love that he's the patron saint of the lost cause (a/k/a the impossible, per Dan!). :)

Groosch!

Thar's been several saints that have touched my life....Chrisotpher...Patrick...Nick.....Sweetie......:):p

I'm not Catholic either (I'm a Southern Baptist;)). However, I'd choose St. John the Baptist.:)

I'm not Catholic either I'm baptist and would also choose St. John the Baptist.

I'm not sure if Mother Cabrini is considered a st. but I have a very unusual story:

In the early 70's my jewish grandmother had major heart surgery. She was in Florida at this time. After surgery she received a visit from a lady that told her everything would be ok and not to worry.
The next day my grandmother asked the nurses about the visitor. After she described the lady that had visited her one of the nurses told her that it sounded like Mother Cabrini and that she should visit the catholic church when she gets out. The church was real close to the hospital.
My grandmother being jewish waited awhile before she visited the church. She said she felt a little uneasy about the whole thing. Finally she goes to the church and talks to a priest. He told her indeed it sounded like Mother Cabrini and that she visits patients from time to time. My grandmother asked him if she could meet her and the priest then told her that Mother Cabrini had died in 1917.
My grandmother told me and my sister this story in the early 90's. She said she never told anyone all those yrs because she didn't think anyone would believe her.
My sister began researching Mother Cabrini and sent me some interesting articles about her. What was so interesting was that my grandmother and Mother Cabrini had so many similarities in their life!
